Digital Television
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of television signals using digital encoding, in contrast to the earlier analog television technology which used analog signals. At the time of its development it was considered an innovative advancement and represented the first significant evolution in television technology since color television in the 1950s. Modern digital television is transmitted in high-definition television (HDTV) with greater resolution than analog TV. It typically uses a widescreen aspect ratio (commonly 16:9) in contrast to the narrower format of analog TV. It makes more economical use of scarce radio spectrum space; it can transmit up to seven channels in the same bandwidth as a single analog channel, and provides many new features that analog television cannot. MTV Hits is a 24-hour pop music television channel from Paramount Networks EMEAA launched on 27 May 2014. The channel is widely available throughout Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. History *On 1 October 2017, MTV Hits, MTV Dance and MTV Rocks ceased broadcasting in Benelux. *A localized version of MTV Hits replaced MTV Brand New in Germany on 6 January 2021 and in the Netherlands on 1 February 2021. Club MTV, formerly MTV Dance, is a European pay television music channel from Paramount Networks EMEAA that was separated from the UK channel on 27 May 2014. It broadcasts electronica, dance and r'n'b music programming. The channel is widely available throughout Europe. ESPN Classic was an American multinational pay television network owned by ESPN Inc., a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (which owns a controlling 80% stake) and Hearst Communications (which owns 20%).
