KYRS
KYRS, known as "Thin Air Community Radio", is a non-profit, non-commercial, full-power community radio station in Spokane, Washington (licensed to Medical Lake, Washington) at 88.1 MHz FM. The station has a translator, K222BG, at 92.3 FM, licensed to Dartford, Washington. The station's owners originally launched a low-power, 100-watt operation in 2003 as KYRS-LP (now KVFS-LP). The low-power station was sold to new ownership as a condition of Thin Air Community Radio being licensed for the current full-power 6,800 watt effective radiated power station on November 4, 2011. The station streams its content from its website. The former KYRS-LP was the fourth community radio barnraising of the Prometheus Radio Project. Medical Lake, Washington
Medical Lake is a small city in Spokane County, eastern Washington, United States. At the 2010 census, the population was 5,060. The city is the site of a psychiatric hospital, Eastern State Hospital, and of Fairchild Air Force Base, two major employers. History The city of Medical Lake was incorporated in 1890. The city took its name from the nearby eponymous lake. The Spokane people, a Native American tribe which had long inhabited the area, believed the water and mud of the lake to possess curative properties. White settlers such as Andrew Lefevre and Stanley Hallett, who moved to the area in the 1870s, promoted this belief and marketed the lake salts for medicinal uses. Dartford, Washington
Dartford is an unincorporated community in Spokane County, in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a small community located along the shore of Dartford Creek and the Little Spokane River north of Spokane. History A post office called Dartford was established in 1898, and remained in operation until 1906. Herbert Dart, the postmaster, gave the community its name. Brothers Herb and Lafayette Dart came to Spokane from Walla Walla in 1879 and built a mill at the present site of Dartford in 1883. The mill was operational until 1922 and ultimately demolished in 1943. All that remains is a portion of the foundation and a wall. Youth organization Camp Fire operates the 51-acre Camp Dart-Lo in Dartford that includes the site of the former mill. Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter.
