KLIV
KLIV (1590 AM broadcasting, AM) is a broadcast radio station in the United States. Licensed to San Jose, California, KLIV serves San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley with a Vietnamese language, Vietnamese format simulcasting KVVN. It is one of the last independently owned stations in the Bay Area. KLIV began broadcasting in 1946 as KSJO before becoming KLIV in 1960. The station had a top-40 format in the 1960s and changed to big band in 1981. From 1991 to 2016, KLIV had a all-news radio, news format before changing to classic country. In 2019, KLIV was shut down after the transmitter site was sold. The station resumed broadcasting in 2020 and was sold to Pham Radio Communication, ending over 50 years of ownership by Empire Broadcasting. It is an affiliate of Cantonese-language Sing Tao Chinese Radio, and leases additional programming from other groups. KAZA (1290 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Gilroy, California, and serving Santa Clara Valley. It airs a radio format of Vietnamese language music and talk, and is branded Viên Thao Radio. The station is owned by Tron Dinh Do, through licensee Intelli, LLC. By day, KAZA is powered at 1,500 watts. But to reduce interference to other stations on 1290 AM, it reduces power at night to 19 watts. It uses a non-directional at all times. KWG (1230 AM) is a radio station licensed to Relevant Radio, Inc. in Stockton, California. It carries that company's Catholic talk radio programming. History KWG is one of the oldest broadcasting stations in the United States. It was initially licensed to the Portable Wireless Telephone Company on December 7, 1921, as the second formally licensed broadcasting station west of the Mississippi River. In addition, it traces its history to an earlier amateur station operated by Paul Oard. Oard was the principal engineer for Oard Radio Laboratories, a small radio equipment company owned by George Turner and located at 1218 North Union Street in Stockton. The company's apparatus was sold through the Atlantic-Pacific Radio Supplies Company of San Francisco. KZSJ (1120 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to San Martin, California. It has a radio format of music and talk in Vietnamese and Korean, serving San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley. The station is currently owned by Bustos Media. Programming is produced by Media, which used to air on a digital subchannel of KAXT-CD. By day, KZSJ is powered at 5,000 watts non-directional. But 1120 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A KMOX St. Louis. So to avoid interference, KZSJ greatly reduces power at night to 150 watts.
