KUVS-DT (channel 19) is a television station licensed to Modesto, California, United States, broadcasting the Spanish-language Univision network to the Sacramento area. It is owned and operated by TelevisaUnivision USA alongside Stockton-licensed UniMás outlet KTFK-DT (channel 64). Both stations share studios on Arden Way near Cal Expo in Sacramento, while KUVS-DT's transmitter is located near Valley Springs, California. KUVS-DT is one of the oldest Spanish-language TV stations in California, having gone on the air from Modesto as KLOC-TV in 1966 and adding Spanish-language programs in 1972. Arden Way is a major east-west arterial in Sacramento County, California, United States. It is approximately long and runs through Sacramento and the unincorporated suburbs of Arden-Arcade and Carmichael. Chester Smith
Chester Smith (March 29, 1930 – August 8, 2008) was a country-western musician and business entrepreneur. Early life and radio career Smith was born in Durant, Oklahoma, on March 29, 1930. He and his family relocated to Tranquility, California, just outside of Fresno in 1935 after escaping the dust bowl. He began singing on KMJ-AM Radio in Fresno with Gene Autry at age 9. After moving to Modesto in 1942, he found his way into the radio broadcasting business with several stations in the central California valley starting with KTRB-AM at age 12 and remaining there for 16 years. He dropped out of high school and started his own program on January 3, 1947. His life was immortalized in song with the catchy tune "The Ballad of Chester Smith", which he wrote and performed. The Overmyer Network, later the United Network, was a television network. It was intended to be a fourth television network, fourth national commercial network in the United States, competing with the Big Three television networks. The network was founded by self-made millionaire Daniel H. Overmyer, who started WDHO-TV (now WNWO-TV, an NBC affiliate), in his birthplace, Toledo, Ohio, which signed on the air on May 3, 1966. Overmyer had construction permits for several other UHF stations that were intended to be owned-and-operated stations of the new network. Ceres, California
Ceres is a city in Stanislaus County, California. Its population was 49,302 at the 2020 U.S. Census, up from 45,417 at the 2010 U.S. Census. It is part of the Modesto metropolitan statistical area. Ceres is located in the San Joaquin Valley along State Route 99, south of Modesto and north of Turlock in Stanislaus County. Ceres is named after the Roman goddess of agriculture. The newspaper in Ceres is called the ''Ceres Courier'', which has been in publication since 1910. The offices of the ''Ceres Courier'' were relocated from an address in downtown Ceres in 2012. Valley Springs (formerly, Spring Valley and Valley Spring) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calaveras County, California, United States, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. KVIN
KVIN (920 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting an Oldies radio format. Licensed to Ceres, California, it serves the Stockton and Modesto radio markets. The station is owned by Threshold Communications and airs Top 40 hits from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The station is 100% automated with no on air disc jockeys. On Saturday nights a big band show is featured, "Swing Thing" hosted by Fred Hall. KVIN has two FM translator stations rebroadcasting its programming: 92.3 K222BX in Modesto and 107.1 K296HL in Manteca. KVIN is one of few AM radio stations that increases its power at night.
