KTWL
KTWL (105.3 FM) is a radio station that is licensed to serve the community of Hempstead, Texas, United States. Formerly an adult hits station known as "Bob FM", it now broadcasts country music and is branded as "Texas Mix 105.3". KTWL began brokering its time out to a 3rd party temporarily airing the "Radio Dabang" South Asian format in April 2018, combining KTWL with Houston translator K287BQ Houston, which had been interfering with this facility's signal since the translator's sign on. By leasing KTWL, the clash between the two co-channel facilities was rendered moot. The former "Texas Mix" country format remained on Henderson co-owned KHTZ as a stand-alone. In July 2018, KTWL returned to its previous country format, while the Houston translator picked up the Regional Mexican "La Mejor" format from KTBZ-FM HD2, and also airs on KJOZ Conroe. Hempstead is a city in and the county seat of Waller County, Texas, United States, part of the metropolitan area. History On December 29, 1856, Dr. Richard Rodgers Peebles and James W. McDade organized the Hempstead Town Company to sell lots in the newly established community of Hempstead, which was located at the projected terminus of Houston and Texas Central Railway. Peebles named Hempstead after Dr. G. S. B. Hempstead, Peebles's brother-in-law. Peebles and Mary Ann Groce Peebles, his wife, contributed of the estate of Jared E. Groce, Jr., for the community. KJOZ (880 AM) is a radio station, paired with 3 FM relay translators. Licensed to Conroe, Texas, KJOZ primarily serves the northern Houston, Texas metropolitan area. The station broadcasts a Tropical music format. History As 900 KMCO KJOZ started out as a full service country & western station using the call sign KMCO (standing for Montgomery County) in 1951, owned by Reagan Smith & Fred Perry Sr. It was originally located at 900 kHz.
