Marfa Public Radio is a network of public radio stations serving the Big Bend (Texas), Big Bend region of Far West Texas. Headquartered in Marfa, Texas, it is a member of National Public Radio. KROI (92.1 FM broadcasting, FM) is a radio station serving the Greater Houston market. Licensed to Seabrook, Texas and owned by Urban One, the station broadcasts an urban gospel format. The station's studios are located in Greenway Plaza and the transmitter is based near Rosharon, Texas, Rosharon in unincorporated Brazoria County, Texas, Brazoria County. It is one of three Radio One-owned stations serving Houston, alongside KBXX and KMJQ. The station began as a Top 40 station upon its launch on 1983, but later shifted to classical and adult contemporary genres before its acquisition by Radio One, after which it became an urban gospel station. KXWT
KXWT (91.3 FM) is a listener-supported public radio station in the Odessa, Texas market, and is owned and operated by Marfa Public Radio. Until 2012, it was owned and operated by Odessa College. It is the National Public Radio member station for the Permian Basin. KXWT now operates at an assigned frequency of 91.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 20,000 watts. With the purchase of KXWT by Marfa Public Radio, a new transmitter was built in Gardendale to allow the frequency to boost to Andrews, Crane, and other surrounding areas. The station operated under the branding of West Texas Public Radio until 2018, when its branding was consolidated into Marfa Public Radio. The station is now operated out of Marfa Public Radio's studios in Marfa, but still airs a partially separate schedule from Marfa Public Radio flagship KRTS and its three satellites. Marfa is a city in the high desert of the Trans-Pecos in far West Texas, between the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park. Presidio is a city in Presidio County, Texas, United States. It is situated on the Rio Grande (''Río Bravo del Norte'') River, on the opposite side of the U.S.–Mexico border from Ojinaga, Chihuahua. The name originates from Spanish and means "fortress". The population was 4,169 at the 2000 census, and had increased to 4,426 as of the 2010 US census. The Davis Mountains, originally known as Limpia Mountains, are a range of mountains in West Texas, located near Fort Davis, after which they are named. The fort was named for then United States Secretary of War and later Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
