KKST (98.7 FM, "Kiss 98.7 FM") is a radio station broadcasting an urban contemporary format. Licensed to Oakdale, Louisiana, United States, the station serves the Alexandria area. The station is currently owned by Cenla Broadcasting Licensing Company, LLC. and the signal covers Alexandria, Natchitoches and surrounding communities. Its studios are located on Texas Avenue in Alexandria, and its transmitter is located near Forest Hill, Louisiana. History On June 30, 1971, Cyril W. and C. Winsett Reddoch, owners of radio station KREH (900 AM), received a construction permit to build a new 1,500-watt radio station at 104.9 MHz in Oakdale. The station signed on with an adult contemporary format the next year. The Reddochs continued to own KCWR and KREH until both were sold to George Mowad, a physician and the mayor of Oakdale, for $400,000 in 1981. This article discusses the history of Vietnamese Americans and Vietnamese immigrants in Houston, Texas, and its environs. Vietnamese immigration has occurred in Greater Houston, including Fort Bend County and Harris County, since 1975, after the Vietnam War ended and refugees began coming to the United States.Vu p. 28. History 1970s through 1990s In early 1975, fewer than 100 ethnic Vietnamese lived in Greater Houston. They included thirty to fifty students, twenty to forty wives of former U.S. servicemen, and some teachers. The first wave of immigration arrived in Houston after the end of the Vietnam War, when Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese on April 30, 1975. Thousands of Vietnamese people who had affiliations to the South Vietnamese government fled Vietnam. Tommy McLain
Tommy McLain (born March 15, 1940) is an American swamp pop musician, best known as a singer but who also plays keyboards, drums, bass guitar, and fiddle. Career McLain first began performing in the 1950s, along with country singer Clint West. The two were both members of The Vel-Tones in the late 1950s and The Boogie Kings in the 1960s, and they recorded a duet, "Try to Find Another Man", in 1965. He also performed on Dick Clark's ''Caravan of Stars'' in the 1960s and DJed at Louisiana radio station, KREH. McLain's greatest fame was with his recording of the song " Sweet Dreams", which hit No. 15 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in 1966. It reached No. 49 in the UK Singles Chart the same year. Little Saigon, also popularly known as Vietnamtown or simply Viet-Town, is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas centered on Bellaire Boulevard west of Chinatown. It is one of the largest Vietnamese enclaves in the United States. It is located within the International Management District. Because the neighborhood is adjacent to Chinatown, there is a misconception that it is a continuation of Chinatown. Little Saigon is, however, its own distinctive neighborhood. The portion of Bellaire Blvd was officially designated as ''Saigon Blvd'' by the City of Houston, and its intersecting streets were also designated Vietnamese names. Pecan Grove is a census-designated place and master-planned community within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Richmond in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. The population was 22,782 at the 2020 census. Geography Pecan Grove is located northeast of the center of Fort Bend County at (29.626060, -95.731591). It is bordered to the southwest by the Brazos River. The city limits of Richmond forms a convoluted pattern in the southern part of the CDP, and the northern part is bordered by an exclave of the city of Houston. Swamp Pop
Swamp pop is a music genre indigenous to the Acadiana region of south Louisiana and an adjoining section of southeast Texas.
