KQLX-FM (106.1 FM, "Thunder 106.1") is a radio station broadcasting a classic-based country music format. Licensed to Lisbon, North Dakota, it serves the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. Its studios are located on Westrac Drive in Fargo, while its transmitter is located northwest of Leonard. History On April 29, 2005, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted KQLX-FM a construction permit to upgrade increase in power to 100,000 watts from a location nearer Fargo, North Dakota from 50,000 watts at a site in Lisbon. The station upgraded on April 29, 2008 and tweaked from "Hit Kickin' Country" to a classic country format as "True Country". A sale was finalized in July 2009, for transfer of ownership from Terry Loomis's Sheyenne Valley Broadcasting to Great Plains Integrated of Fargo, North Dakota. Lisbon is a city in and the county seat of Ransom County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 2,204 at the 2020 census. History Lisbon was founded in 1880 by Joseph L. Colton, who named the new city after Lisbon, New York, his wife's hometown, not after Portugal's capital. Within four years, the town had a newspaper, the ''Star''. Jason Mark Lewis (born September 23, 1955) is an American politician and former conservative radio personality who served as the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 2nd congressional district from 2017 until 2019. John Donald Imus Jr. (July 23, 1940 – December 27, 2019), also known mononymously as Imus, was an American radio personality, television show host, recording artist, and author. His radio show, ''Imus in the Morning'', was aired on various stations and digital platforms nationwide until 2018. In 1968, he began his first radio job, at KUTY in Palmdale, California.
