KPRF-FM
KPRF (98.7 FM, "The Bomb") is a commercial classic hits radio station located in Amarillo, Texas. Its studios are located on Southwest 34th Avenue in Southwest Amarillo, and its transmitter tower is based west of the city in unincorporated Potter County, a mile west of Cadillac Ranch. This station used to be longtime Top 40/ CHR station under the moniker as ''"Power 98 FM"''. KPRF's format change took effect March 2007. On June 28, 2017, KPRF dropped the "Jack FM" format and began stunting with a unique format, playing a variety of songs entitled "Pay It and Play It" (claiming listeners could pay to request the songs played, yet intentionally never giving the number to call and request.) KXSS-FM
KXSS-FM (96.9 FM, "96-9 KISS-FM") is a Top 40 (CHR) formatted radio station serving the Amarillo, Texas, market. KXSS-FM is owned by Townsquare Media. Its studios are located on Southwest 34th Avenue in Southwest Amarillo, and its transmitter tower is based north of the city on the property of unrelated television station KFDA-TV in unincorporated Potter County. The 96.9 frequency was, until 2008, home to a country music format as "96.9 KMML," under the ownership of Clear Channel Communications; however, it was one of close to 450 radio stations sold by Clear Channel in the process of privatization, beginning in 2007. KXSS, along with its sister stations KPRF-FM, KATP-FM, KMXJ-FM, and KIXZ, was acquired along with approximately fifty other stations by Gap Broadcasting for a total price of $139M. Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played. Stunting is typically used to generate publicity and audience attention for upcoming changes to a station's programming, such as new branding, format, or as a soft launch for a newly-established station. Occasionally, a stunt may be purely intended as publicity or a protest, and not actually result in a major programming change. Stunts often involve a loop of a single song, or an interim format (such as the discography of a specific artist, Christmas music, a specific theme, or novelty songs), which may sometimes include hints towards the station's new format or branding. ''Cadillac Ranch'' is a public art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas, US. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm. The installation consists of ten Cadillacs (1949–1963) buried nose-first in the ground.
