KNYN is an American FM radio station broadcasting on 99.1 MHz FM and is licensed to Fort Bridger, Wyoming. The station carries a country music format. History Former logo prior to 2010 For much of its life, KNYN was a sister station to KEVA 1240 AM. In 2010, the owners of that station decided to lease KNYN to another entity. Medicine Butte
Medicine Butte is a mountain located in Uinta County, approximately north of the city of Evanston, Wyoming. It is in elevation and can be reached via an access road. The mountain houses radio towers serving numerous local and regional services. The mountain is named as such by Native Americans because of the great variety of herbs and roots that they used for medicine which were found on the slopes of the butte. The mountain is sometimes known as "Fremont’s Monument" for John C. Fremont. Radio use Radio towers for several different communications systems exist on the summit of the mountain. Fort Bridger, Wyoming
Fort Bridger is a census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Uinta County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 345 at the 2010 census. The community takes its name from the eponymous Fort Bridger, established in 1842, which is located within the boundaries of the CDP. History Fort Bridger was established in 1843 by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez. It served as a trading post for those who were traveling westward along the Oregon Trail, as well as LDS Pioneers, the Pony Express, the Lincoln Highway, and the transcontinental railroad. The fort was also commonly used to trade with the local Native Americans. The fort was not very glamorous, it was even a disappointment to most travelers. It was simply two log cabins about in length connected by a fence to hold horses. Most visitors complained about insufficient supplies and it being over priced. Evanston, Wyoming
Evanston is a city in and the county seat of Uinta County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 12,359 at the 2010 census. It is located near the border with Utah. History Evanston was named after James A. Evans, a civil engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. Another source maintains it is named for John Evans, second Governor of the Territory of Colorado. The town was founded during the construction of the First transcontinental railroad. The railroad arrived in the area in November 1868, and Harvey Booth opened a saloon/restaurant in a tent near what is now Front Street. By December the rails had reached Evanston and the first train arrived December 16. However, orders were later handed down by the railroad managers to move the end of the line 12 miles west, to Wasatch. Within three days, most all of Evanston had moved to Wasatch, it appeared that Evanston would become another "end of the tracks" town. KEVA
KEVA (1240 AM) was a radio station broadcasting from Evanston, Wyoming. KEVA had been on the air in southwestern Wyoming since 1953, and was one of the area's oldest radio stations. It offered local programming throughout the day as well, including news, classifieds, and weather. KEVA's tower and studio were located on Airport Road just outside town. Initially as a daytime-only radio station in 1953, KEVA ceased broadcasting July 2, 2014 due to failure of their transmitter. Attempts to repair it were unsuccessful. Attempts to find a new owner and money for a new transmitter were also unsuccessful. It was taken off the air. KEVA's license was canceled on May 3, 2017, for failure to pay debts it owed to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
