KNIN-FM (92.9 Hertz, MHz), "Wichita Falls' #1 Hit Music Station," is a radio station broadcasting a Contemporary hit radio, Top 40 (CHR) format. The station serves the Wichita Falls, Texas area. The station is currently owned by Townsquare Media. History 92.9 FM in Wichita Falls was built in late 1973 and early 1974, signing on as KBID and owned by the Mustang Broadcasting Company. The callsign changed to KNIN-FM in 1981 when KFCD, KNIN acquired it. KNIN-FM was Wichita Falls' affiliate for Dan Ingram's ''Top 40 Satellite Survey''. In 1988, the station dropped its CHR formula to twitch into a short-lived Rock 40 format, similar to Dallas-Fort Worth's KEGL right around the time KEGL began fading out their rock format, but had dropped its flavor in 1990. KWFS-FM (102.3 MHz branded as "102.3 The Bull") is a radio station serving the Wichita Falls area with a modern country format. It is under ownership of Townsquare Media. History KNTO-FM, the first FM station in the Wichita Falls area, went on air in August 1961, owned by a partnership of five local businessmen including Bob Lipscomb, Bill Thacker, and three others, and the station's callsign stood for "North Texas and Oklahoma".. KNTO operated from the Onaway Trail tower, still used today, on 95.1 MHz with 3,100 watts horizontal only at 430 feet above average terrain. Studios were on Galveston Drive (near present I-44) before moving to the Onaway Trail building. The format was easy listening/beautiful music. The station was not an instant success. KWFS (1290 kHz) is an AM radio station with a news/talk radio format serving the area of Wichita Falls, Texas, United States. It is owned by Townsquare Media, with studios on Kell Boulevard in Wichita Falls. KWFS is the oldest radio station still remaining in Wichita Falls. KFCD (990 AM) is a commercial radio station in Farmersville, Texas. It is owned by Linda Hammond, through licensee Farmersville Investments, LLC, and airs a Spanish-language Christian radio format. Blocks of time are sold to hosts who may use their shows to appeal for donations to their ministries. The system is known as brokered programming. KFCD is powered at 7,000 watts by day.
