KMNQ (1470 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and serving the Twin Cities radio market. The station simulcasts the Spanish-language programming of sister station KMNV, playing Regional Mexican music. In October 2021, it began stunting with a variety format, before leaving the air entirely in early 2022. In January 2023, it returned, again simulcasting sister station KMNV. It left the air again the following day. KMNQ's radio studios were located on 27th Avenue South and East Lake Street in Minneapolis. Those studios burned in the Minneapolis Riots following the murder of George Floyd in May 2020. The station returned to the air with help from KFAI, which offered space in its facility. It is owned by Salem Media Group and broadcasts a conservative talk radio format. By day, WWTC transmits with 10,000 watts. At night, the power is increased to 15,000 watts. Leigh Kamman
Leigh Kamman (September 2, 1922 – October 17, 2014) was an American radio host who focused on bringing jazz music to the airwaves during his career, which spanned more than six decades. He began his career in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, but spent time in other places such as at WOV radio in New York City. On September 29, 2007, he hosted his last edition of ''The Jazz Image'' on Minnesota Public Radio, which he had run since 1973. Upon his retirement, he told listeners, "I really want to take time now for some projects that have been waiting, including a book I've long wished to write." Kamman was honored numerous times for his contributions to the region and the promotion of "the only original American art form." He became intrigued with jazz in the 1930s when he was 12 years old, doing odd jobs at resorts in central Minnesota. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose. WLOL (1330 AM) is a radio station in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota. It broadcasts a Catholic Radio format and is part of the Relevant Radio network. WLOL's transmitter is located along the Minnesota River in Savage. History WLOL, named for the "Land Of Lakes", is one of the area's most legendary set of call letters. WLOL's history is intertwined with many other local frequencies over the years.
