KL Lechia Gdańsk (Athletics)
Klub Lekkoatletyczny Lechia Gdańsk ( en, Athletics Club Lechia Gdańsk) is a Polish athletics club based in Gdańsk, Poland. The athletics club was formed and became part of the Lechia Gdańsk sports club. While the club has not been officially associated with the other sporting sections since 2002, the athletics club still continues with the name ''Lechia''. In 2007 Lechia started building a new athletics stadium and training complex. The building was to be completed in 2010, and to be called the "Stadion Lekkoatletyczny KL Lechia" but was later abandoned. The club states that its purpose and aims are to; provide better sporting opportunities for the inhabitants of Gdańsk, provide development for the best athletes as well as providing the best possible conditions for its athletes and competitors, and to promote sport and recreation for the disabled inhabitants. Władysław Komar
Władysław Stefan Komar (11 April 1940 – 17 August 1998) was a Polish shot putter, actor and cabaretist. Competing in three Summer Olympics between 1964 and 1972, he won the gold medal at the Munich Games in 1972 with a throw of 21.18 metres. His nickname was "King Kong" Komar as attributed to a ''Sports Illustrated'' article. His personal bests in the shot put were 21.19 metres outdoors (Warsaw 1974) and 20.32 metres indoors (Grenoble 1972), both being national records during his career. Early life Władysław Komar was born in Kaunas, Lithuania on 11 April 1940 to Władysław Komar-Zabożyński and Wanda Jasińska. As a Polish noble family they owned a mansion in Rogówek (Lithuanian: Raguvėlė).
