KLWN (1320 AM and 101.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a News Talk Information format. It is licensed to Lawrence, Kansas, United States. The station is currently owned by Great Plains Media, Inc. and features programming from Fox News Radio, Westwood One and Fox Sports Radio. The station also broadcasts University of Kansas football and basketball. KLWN is the flagship radio station of the Jayhawk IMG Sports Network. KKSW is a radio station in Lawrence, Kansas, broadcasting to the Topeka and Kansas City areas on 105.9 FM. The station offers a Top 40/CHR format. History On August 20, 1963, KLWN-FM first signed on. Its original purpose was a full-time signal to broadcast weather, sports, and other information, including things like school closings. The FM station was originally run by a tape, at that time the station's most popular programming was University of Kansas or Lawrence High football games. The station started with technical facilities of 17 kW on 105.9 MHz. From 1963 to 1974, both stations shared the same studio. KLWN-FM essentially simulcast the AM during daylight hours until 1972. In 1972, the staff began a separate rock programming that was broadcast in the overnight hours, first after the AM sign-off, and then it was pre-taped and replayed the next day at 3 PM, later noon. Lawrence is the county seat of Douglas County, Kansas, Douglas County, Kansas, United States, and the sixth-largest city in the state. WDQZ
WZIM (99.5 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Lexington, Illinois, and serving the Bloomington-Normal radio market. The station is owned and operated by Pilot Media, and calls itself "Magic 99.5." It broadcasts an adult contemporary radio format, but for much of November and December, it switches to Christmas music. History The station signed on in late 2001 as WCSO, and the call letters were soon changed to WDQZ. It was a classic rock simulcast with WDQX in Peoria. In December 2005 WDQX was sold, and the simulcast with WDQZ was split. Sometime after that, the station evolved into a more straight-ahead classic hits station. Arden Booth
George Arden Booth (December 4, 1911–March 10, 2000) was an American politician who served as the Kansas State Senator from the 2nd district from 1971 to 1976. Early life Born in Fairview, Kansas, Booth was the eighth of nine children. He was an active member of 4-H, and showed an early interest in music and broadcasting; he made his radio debut in 1927, after winning a contest whose prize was singing on-air. Booth attended Baker University, graduating with a B.S. in music in 1936. After spending several years teaching music in Kansas and a short time studying voice in New York City, he joined the military and was stationed in Oahu during World War II, where he worked in the entertainment division of the Special Services. While in Hawaii, he married Bette Mills in 1946, and shortly thereafter returned to Kansas.
