KERO-TV (channel 23) is a television station in Bakersfield, California, United States, affiliated with ABC and owned by the E. W. Scripps Company. The station's studios are located on 21st Street in Downtown Bakersfield, and its transmitter is located atop Breckenridge Mountain. KERO-TV operates digital translator KZKC-LD (channel 28), which allows homes with issues receiving KERO-TV's VHF signal or only a UHF antenna to receive KERO-TV in some form. History KERO-TV went on the air on September 26, 1953, on channel 10 as an NBC affiliate. During the late 1950s, the station was also briefly affiliated with the NTA Film Network. The radio studios and offices are in the American General Media complex at 1400 Easton Drive, STE 134 in Bakersfield. KERN airs a talk radio format. Its studios are located at the Easton Business Complex in southwest Bakersfield, and its transmitter is located east of the city. History The station signed on the air in 1948 as KERN-FM. It was well known in the 1980s as KQXR or Q94 FM. At that time it had a Top 40 format that leaned towards adult contemporary. After taking a beating from then-rhythmic KKXX 105.3FM, the call letters were changed in 1989 to KERN-FM (94 Oldies), along with the format. Bakersfield Blaze
The Bakersfield Blaze were a minor league baseball team in Bakersfield, California. They played in the Class A – Advanced California League. They played their home games at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Opened in 1941, the stadium is well known for facing the setting sun and its shallow 354-foot center field fence, and seats 3,500 fans. Near the end of the 2008 season, it was rumored that the Blaze would move to the Carolina League after the following season. However, Minor League Baseball president Pat O'Conner announced in February 2009 that they would remain in the California League. The Blaze were sold to local Bakersfield businessmen Gene Voiland and Chad Hathaway just prior to the 2012 season. The radio news service served over 400 radio stations across North America and provided various programming. On November 12, 2014, Dow Jones announced that the ''Wall Street Journal'' Radio Network would cease operations at the close of the year. The move came after News Corporation had been split, with Dow Jones and other print publications moving to the new News Corp and broadcasting assets being spun off to 21st Century Fox (and, after that, Fox Corporation in 2019).
