KGB (San Francisco)
KGB was a broadcasting station authorization issued to Edwin L. Lorden in San Francisco, California, on December 8, 1921, and canceled on March 23 of the next year. The station does not appear to have actually made any broadcasts. Its owner was best known for stock fraud and also a contemporary, unsuccessful, scheme to surreptitiously use radio transmissions to gain an advantage in getting stock market quotes. Charles Herrold
Charles David "Doc" Herrold (November 16, 1875 – July 1, 1948) was an American inventor and pioneer radio broadcaster, who began experimenting with audio radio transmissions in 1909. Beginning in 1912 he apparently became the first person to make entertainment broadcasts on a regular schedule, from his station in San Jose, California. Early life Born in Fulton, Illinois, Herrold grew up in San Jose. In 1895 he enrolled in Stanford University, where he studied astronomy and physics for three years, but withdrew due to illness and never graduated. While at Stanford he was inspired by reports of Guglielmo Marconi's demonstrations that radio signals could be used for wireless communication, and began to experiment with the new technology. After recovering from his illness, Herrold moved to San Francisco, where he developed a number of inventions for dentistry, surgery, and underwater illumination. KDN (San Francisco)
KDN was a short-lived San Francisco radio station, licensed to the Leo J. Meyberg Company and located at the Fairmont Hotel. It was issued its first license in December 1921 and deleted a year and one half later. History 6XG Although KDN was first licensed as a broadcasting station in late 1921, this was actually a relicensing and continuation of operations begun under an Experimental license, 6XG, issued to the Leo J. Meyberg Company a few months earlier.
