YMCA, sometimes regionally called the Y, is a worldwide youth organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, with more than 64 million beneficiaries in 120 countries. KFUM Borås
KFUM Borås is a Swedish multi-sport club based in Borås. The club's basketball team, known as Borås Basket, play in the Swedish top division Basketligan in 2017–18. KFUM is a translation of the English language YMCA. The club's handball team were promoted to the highest league, Allsvenskan, in 1964. The team that won promotion mainly consisted of local players. A major reason for their success was the physical shape of the players. Coach Arne Eriksson, a former Swedish military pentathlon champion, made the players regularly practise long-distance running. This gave the team an advantage over technically more skilled opponents. In their debut season in the top-flight, Borås finished second, a single point behind champions Redbergslids IK. KFUM-Kameratene Oslo is the sports branch of the local YMCA in Oslo, Norway. It has sections for association football, futsal, volleyball and track and field. The football team currently plays in 1. divisjon, the second tier of the Norwegian football league system. The club was founded on 1 January 1939. Its traditional base is in downtown Oslo, but it now plays its matches at KFUM Arena at Ekebergsletta. Football In 2008 KFUM-Kameratene Oslo won their 3. divisjon group, and also won the playoff to gain promotion. It had formerly failed in such a playoff in 2004.
