KFGM-FM (101.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve Frenchtown, Montana. The station is owned by a nonprofit, Missoula Community Radio, with studios in the Missoula Public Library and a transmitter on Mount Dean Stone. History The station signed on in 2007 as KXGZ "Grizz Country 101.5", a country music format with added coverage of Montana Grizzlies athletics simulcast with KGVO (1290 AM). The station was assigned the KVWE call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on March 25, 2009, when the station changed to adult contemporary as "The View". This was dropped on March 1, 2012, when the station changed to simulcasting KGVO's news-talk format and adopted the call sign KGVO-FM. KGVO (AM)
KGVO (1290 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to serve Missoula, Montana. The station is owned by Townsquare Media. It airs a news/talk format. The station was assigned the KGVO call letters by the Federal Radio Commission on March 17, 1931. On May 6, 1932, the FRC authorized KGVO to move from 1420 kHz to 1200 kHz and to change to unlimited operation rather than its previous 10 a.m.-6 p.m. schedule. At that time, KGVO had 100 watts power. KGVO has been the flagship station of Montana Grizzlies football and men's basketball for decades; it frequently brands itself as "Home of the Grizzlies." Until 2017, KGVO simulcast on KGVO-FM at 101.5 FM, which was used to fill in the gaps when the AM station adjusted its coverage at night. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation. This leaves the original analog signal intact, allowing enabled receivers to switch between digital and analog as required. In most FM implementations, from 96 to 128 kbps of capacity is available. KGGL (93.3 FM, "Eagle 93.3") is a commercial radio station in Missoula, Montana, airing a country music format. It is owned by Townsquare Media. History KDXT On October 15, 1975, Rex Jensen filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a construction permit to build a new radio station on 93.3 MHz in Missoula, with transmitter on Big Sky Mountain. The permit was granted on May 25, 1976, with the commission dismissing complaints by several other Missoula broadcasters that the new facility would cause interference to their operations. While the station was intended to launch that fall, equipment delivery and bad weather in the eastern United States prompted the project to be shelved for the winter; KDXT made its debut on April 29, 1977.
