KEDD (TV)
KEDD, UHF analog channel 16, was an NBC- affiliated television station licensed to Wichita, Kansas, United States that operated from August 15, 1953, to April 30, 1956. It was the first television station based in Wichita, though stations could be picked up from nearby Oklahoma as early as 1949 with a high enough antenna. The station's studios were located at 2815 East 37th Street North. The start-up of two VHF stations in Wichita put KEDD at a disadvantage economically, spurring the station to file for bankruptcy in 1955. The second of these stations, KARD-TV, signed on as an independent, and NBC decided in early 1956 to move its programs there, signaling channel 16's demise. Jerry Dunphy
Gerald Raymond Dunphy (June 9, 1921 – May 20, 2002) was an American television news anchor in the Los Angeles/Southern California media market. He was best known for his intro "From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California, a good evening." Biography Career After serving as a pilot in World War II, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals, Dunphy began his broadcast television career in 1953. He was the news director/anchor at then-CBS owned-and-operated (O&O) WXIX (now CW affiliated WVTV) in Milwaukee. Dunphy also was a sports reporter at another CBS O&O, WBBM-TV, in Chicago. Dunphy also served as a color commentator for Green Bay Packers telecasts on CBS in 1956. It is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which provides certain services to Hutchinson-licensed Dabl affiliate KMTW (channel 36) under a local marketing agreement (LMA) with Mercury Broadcasting Company. Overmyer Network
The Overmyer Network, later the United Network, was a television network. It was intended to be a fourth television network, fourth national commercial network in the United States, competing with the Big Three television networks. The network was founded by self-made millionaire Daniel H. Overmyer, who started WDHO-TV (now WNWO-TV, an NBC affiliate), in his birthplace, Toledo, Ohio, which signed on the air on May 3, 1966. Overmyer had construction permits for several other UHF stations that were intended to be owned-and-operated stations of the new network.
