KDZA-TV
KDZA-TV was a television station broadcasting on channel 3 in Pueblo, Colorado, which broadcast from March 16, 1953, to May 7, 1954. It was the first television station established in Pueblo. The station shut down due to financial difficulties, competition from a second station in Pueblo and two outlets in Colorado Springs, and network affiliation changes in Denver that affected its main programming source. History KDZA-TV began telecasting March 16, 1953. It was owned by Dee B. Collins alongside independent AM outlet KDZA (1230 AM). Much of its programming, including network fare, was fed to it by a microwave relay between Pueblo and KFEL-TV (channel 2) at Denver. Gene O'Fallon, who owned KFEL-TV, filed to buy KDZA radio and television from Collins for $350,000, including the assumption of $100,000 in payments to DuMont Laboratories for the channel 3 transmitter, at the end of July. Alamosa is a home rule municipality and the county seat of Alamosa County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 9,806 at the 2020 United States Census. The city is the commercial center of the San Luis Valley in south-central Colorado, and is the home of Adams State University. KFOR-TV, channel 10, was a VHF television station in Lincoln, Nebraska, that operated from May 1953 to March 1954. History KFOR-TV signed on May 31, 1953, three months after the launch of the first Lincoln station, KOLN. It was founded by Lincoln-based Cornbelt Broadcasting, which also operated KFOR radio. New studios were built for the station at 48th and Vine streets. The station's transmitter was located on the KFOR radio tower a few blocks away from the studio. It was the ABC affiliate for the Omaha-Lincoln market. However, according to longtime KOLN personality Leta Powell Drake, Omaha stations KMTV and WOW-TV (now WOWT), both of which had a secondary ABC affiliation, had first choice on ABC programming and blocked KFOR from airing ABC's most popular shows during prime time. KUBE (1350 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a sports format. Licensed to Pueblo, Colorado, United States, it serves the Colorado Springs area. The station is currently owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. and licensed as CC Licenses. History This station was authorized to Philip C. Lasky and J. H. Albert on October 27, 1927, as KGHF. It originally broadcast on 1430 kHz, sharing the frequency with KFXJ. It went on the air in January 1928 from the Congress Hotel. In 1964, KGHF became KKAM. KKAM would eventually become country KIDN and later return to its KGHF callsign. KDZA (1230 AM), Pueblo's heritage Top 40 radio station and once this frequency's competitor when 1350 was KKAM, was shut down in the early 1990s and was sold to Pueblo Community College a few years later, which dropped the legendary call letters for KKPC.
