KDOK (1240 AM) is a terrestrial radio station licensed to Kilgore, Texas, United States, paired with an FM translator, and simulcast with sister station 1490 KYZS, serving the Tyler-Longview market with a Classic hits format. KDOK signed on the air in 1936 as KOCA, which represented the slogan "Kilgore - Oil Capital of America". The facility is the third oldest licensed broadcast station in East Texas, surpassed only by its broadcast partner 1490 KYZS Tyler, signing on in 1931, and 1370 KFRO Longview in 1935. Michael Scott Shannon (born July 25, 1947) is an American radio disc jockey who hosted the morning show for WCBS-FM in New York City from 2014 to 2022 as well as ''Scott Shannon Presents America's Greatest Hits'' which is syndicated nationally with United Stations Radio Networks and Audacy. He previously worked for WHTZ, WPLJ, ''The True Oldies Channel'', and ''The Sean Hannity Show''. Early radio career Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Shannon grew up an Army brat in Indianapolis, Indiana. He began his radio career during his own Army stint at WFBS (1450 AM) in Spring Lake, North Carolina (later WMRV). From there he moved to WCLS (1580 AM) in Columbus, Georgia. KFRO (1370 AM) is a terrestrial American radio station licensed to Longview, Texas, United States. The station serves the Longview-Tyler-Kilgore area. KFRO is owned by RCA Broadcasting, LLC. Translator History James R. Curtis received a license in 1924 to operate KFRO on 1220 kilohertz in Ft. Worth, Texas. However, financial problems forced Curtis to abandon the plans for the Ft. Worth station, and later revive the KFRO license on 1370 kHz in Longview. According to the 60th anniversary of KFRO (Longview News Journal Suppliment), Rogers Lacy, maternal uncle of James R.Curtis, offered to fund $5000.00 for the equipment needed to get KFRO on the air. East Texas is a broadly defined cultural, geographic, and ecological region in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas that comprises most of 41 counties.
