KBEK (95.5 FM; "Nice 95.5") is a radio station licensed to Mora, Minnesota, and serving east-central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. The station is owned by Alan R. Quarnstrom, through licensee KBEK 95.5FM Inc. KBEK previously aired an eclectic mix of music with specialty shows every night of the week, all hosted by personalities who live in the station's broadcast area. History The station was assigned the KBEK call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on September 20, 1989, and was granted its License to Cover on May 22, 1995. It was formerly licensed to John Godfrey, Colleen McKinney's late husband, who died of cancer in 2004. Due to economic factors, KBEK went up for sale in September 2011. WCMP (1350 AM) is a radio station in Pine City, Minnesota. It has a classic country format, and broadcasts 24 hours a day. The station first signed on in 1957. It started out as a Full Service MOR station broadcasting only through the day hours, but transformed into Full Service AC in the mid-1980s. It is owned by Alan R. Kanabec County ( ) is a county in the East Central part of U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,032. Its county seat is Mora. History The Minnesota legislature authorized creation of Kanabec County on March 13, 1858, with territory partitioned from Pine County. No county seat was designated at that time, and the county organization was not effected at that time. The county name came from the Ojibwe term ''ginebig'', meaning "snake," after the Snake River — ''Kanabecosippi'' (''Ginebigo-ziibi'' in the modern spelling) — which flows through the county. The area of Kanabec County was attached to Chisago County for administrative and judicial purposes. In North American broadcasting, a local marketing agreement (LMA), or local management agreement, is a contract in which one company agrees to operate a radio or television station owned by another party. In essence, it is a sort of lease or time-buy. Under Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, a local marketing agreement must give the company operating the station (the "senior" partner) under the agreement control over the entire facilities of the station, including the finances, personnel and programming of the station. Its original licensee (the "junior" partner) still remains legally responsible for the station and its operations, such as compliance with relevant regulations regarding content.
