K5 is a band formed in 1995 by Kevin Shiver. The song "Passion," on Orlando's Kram Records, received local commercial radio station airplay on 106.7 FM (WXXL). "Passion" reached No. 11 in Central Florida's Top 20. The exposure led to national rotation on other radio networks. Breakbeat is a broad type of electronic music that tends to use drum breaks sampled from early recordings of funk, jazz, and R&B. Breakbeats have been used in styles such as hip hop, jungle, drum and bass, big beat, breakbeat hardcore, and UK garage styles (including 2-step, breakstep and dubstep). Florida Breaks
Florida breaks, which may also be referred to as The Orlando Sound, Orlando breaks, or The Breaks, is a genre of breakbeat dance music that originated in the central region of the State of Florida, United States. Florida Breaks originates from a mixture of hip-hop, Miami bass and electro that often includes recognizable sampling of early jazz or funk beats from rare groove or popular film. Florida's breakbeat style feature vocal elements and retains the hip-hop rhythms on which is based. The Florida breakbeat style however is faster, more syncopated, and has a heavier and unrelenting bassline. The beat frequently slows and breaks down complex beat patterns and then rebuilds. WXXL (106.7 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Tavares, Florida, and serving the Greater Orlando - Central Florida radio market. The station airs a Top 40/CHR radio format and is owned by iHeartMedia. The studios and offices on Maitland Center Drive in Maitland. WXXL has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts. The transmitter is on Story Road at Veterans Memorial Park in Winter Garden. History WXXL first began broadcasting in 1969 under the call sign WLBE-FM, as an MOR-format radio station. It was the sister station of WLBE (790 AM), also licensed to Leesburg. In 1977, the station was known as ''Y-106'' broadcasting an adult contemporary format. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data. Radio airplay, which, unlike sales figures and streaming, is readily available on a real-time basis, is also tracked on a Friday to Thursday cycle effective with the chart dated July 17, 2021 (previously Monday to Sunday and before July 2015, Wednesday to Tuesday).
