K15CU-D (channel 15) is a low-power television station licensed to Salinas, California, United States, broadcasting the digital multicast network Cozi TV to the Monterey Bay area. Owned and operated by the NBC Owned Television Stations group, it relays the second digital subchannel of KNTV from San Jose. K15CU-D's transmitter is located on Fremont Peak in the Gabilan Mountains above San Juan Bautista, California, over above sea level. History The station was put on air on February 16, 1990 (by Telemundo, then under separate ownership), as a translator of KSTS in San Francisco. The translator briefly had a local operation in Salinas, including a news bureau, which was closed in a cost-cutting move in 1992. On February 8, 2010, the station went dark for technical reasons. KSTS (channel 48) is a television station licensed to San Jose, California, United States, broadcasting the Spanish-language Telemundo network to the San Francisco Bay Area. It is owned and operated by NBCUniversal's Telemundo Station Group alongside NBC outlet KNTV (channel 11); it is also sister to regional sports networks NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California. Gabilan Mountains
The Gabilan Range or Gabilán Range (Spanish for "sparrow hawk") are a mountain range in the inner California Coast Ranges System, located in Monterey County and San Benito County of central California. Pinnacles National Park is located in the southern section of the range. Geography The Gabilan Range trends in a northwest–southeast direction along the Monterey County and San Benito County line. It is bordered on the east by the Diablo Range, the San Andreas Fault, and State Route 25; and on the west by the Salinas Valley, Santa Lucia Range, and U.S. Route 101. Monterey Bay
Monterey Bay is a bay of the Pacific Ocean located on the coast of the U.S. state of California, south of the San Francisco Bay Area and its major city at the south of the bay, San Jose. In the broadcasting industry, an owned-and-operated station (frequently abbreviated as an O&O) usually refers to a television or radio station owned by the network with which it is associated. This distinguishes such a station from an affiliate, which is independently owned and carries network programming by contract. Fremont Peak, historically known as Gabilán Peak, is a summit in the Gabilan Range, one of the mountain ranges paralleling California's central coast. The peak affords clear views of the Salinas Valley, Monterey Bay, the southern part of the Santa Clara Valley, and surrounding mountain ranges.
