K. Palakidnar
Justice Krishnapillai Palakidnar was a leading Sri Lankan lawyer, judge and President of the Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka. Early life and family Palakidnar was born in 1931 at Kokuvil in northern Ceylon. He was the son of S. Krishnapillai, Chief Trains Controller, and Pasupathy. He was educated at Kokuvil Hindu College, Jaffna Hindu College and St. Joseph's College, Colombo. After school he joined the Ceylon University College, graduating with a BA degree. He then entered Ceylon Law College, qualifying as an advocate of the Supreme Court in 1957. Career After qualifying Palakidnar practised law in Colombo as a junior under C. Renganathan. He joined the Judicial Service in 1966, serving as a magistrate in Anuradhapura, Ratnapura and Jaffna. He was then a District Judge in Kalmunai, Chavakachcheri and Jaffna. Chilaw ( si, හලාවත, translit=Halāvata, ta, சிலாபம், translit=Cilāpam) is a large town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is governed by an urban council. The town is located 80 kilometres away from Colombo via Negombo. Etymology The name Chilaw derives its name from its Tamil name ''Cilāpam'', meaning pearl fishery. Chavakachcheri
Chavakachcheri ( ta, சாவகச்சேரி Cāvakaccēri, si, ජාවකච්චේරි Jāvakachchēri) is a large town in the Jaffna peninsula of Jaffna District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. It may have Javanese people, Javanese origins, as the name "Chaavaka+cheari" literally means Javanese settlement (there are also some references to a Javanese fort in northern Sri Lanka). The town may date back to the Tambralinga, Southeast Asian occupation of Yalpanam, where certain settlements and forts were established by Chandrabhanu to maintain hegemony over the overseas colony. The town is governed by an Urban Council. Chavakachcheri was badly devastated in the Sri Lankan Civil War. Today, the government and the people of Chavakachcheri have rebuilt the town, but the population remains drastically lower than the pre-war years.
