K. A. Krishnaswamy
K. A. Krishnaswamy (24 March 1932 – 18 May 2010) was an Indian politician and minister in the Government of Tamil Nadu. He was the younger brother of K.A. Murugesan, a DK leader and K. A. Mathiazhagan, a founding leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He was the third person from the Kaniyur family to enter politics. Initially he belonged to the DMK and was a member of the Rajya Sabha. In 1972 when M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R.) joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), he joined the party as the second member. Krishnaswamy was the first organising secretary of the AIADMK and was the owner and editor of the ''Thennagam'' daily newspaper, which subsequently became the official organ of the AIADMK. He gave the title of Puratchi Thalaivar (Revolutionary Leader) to M.G.R. Kaniyur, Tamil Nadu
Kaniyur is a suburb of palani which is also a town panchayat in Tirupur District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Kaniyur is also called Dravida Iyakkathin Thotti. It is one of the 'K' villages located near to dmelpettai It is located on the banks of the Amaravathi River in Tirupur District. Kaniyur had a Sivan temple. It was an ancient period temple( approx. 1200AD). Kaniyur has an old mosque which was 128-years-old in 2015. Agriculture is the main occupation of people. Sugar cane, rice, vethala kodikal are the main crops in Kaniyur. Kaniyur is the junction of many villages to connect the town of Udumalpet, Dharapuram, Kadathur, Keeranur, Madathukulam and Palani. Sri Venkatakrishna School celebrated its 100th year recently. Krishna Yajur Veda Padasala is in this village. President Abdul Kalam has visited this school. It was founded in 1932 as ''The Indian Express'', under the ownership of Chennai-based P. Varadarajulu Naidu. 1984 Tamil Nadu State Assembly Election
The eighth legislative assembly election for Tamil Nadu was held on 24 December 1984. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the election and its general secretary, incumbent M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R) was sworn in as Chief Minister, for the third time. The election victory was mainly attributed to the sympathy wave created by Indira Gandhi's assassination and M.G.R's illness coupled with Rajiv Gandhi's popularity. This is the last election M.G.R contested as he died in office in 1987. This is also the only General Election which M. Karunanidhi did not contest since 1957 until his death.
