K.K. Seet
Seet Khiam Keong (), better known as "K.K. Seet", is an academic, writer and theatre director from Singapore. He is a prominent figure in the arts scene in Singapore, where he is particularly known for being a judge at several high-profile competitions and serving on a number of arts-related committees. Academic career Seet holds a PhD from the University of Exeter, and Master's degrees from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Toronto. He has been the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship (as Visiting Fellow at the City University of New York) and two British Council Fellowships. Seet was responsible for establishing the Theatre Studies programme at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1992. He was a tenured academic in the NUS Department of English Language and Literature for 22 years before choosing to take early retirement in June 2012. Seet has written fifteen books. Cultural Medallion
The Cultural Medallion is a cultural award in Singapore conferred to those who have achieved artistic excellence in dance, theatre, literature, music, photography, art and film. It is widely recognized as Singapore's pinnacle arts award. History The award was instituted in March 1979 by Minister for Culture Ong Teng Cheong and administered by the National Arts Council. The awards was given by the Minister for Culture. Since 2006, the award was presented by the President of Singapore instead of the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts (previously known as Minister for Culture). Central was a Singaporean English and Tamil language free-to-air television channel. Its programming schedule was composed of three timeshared channels on its frequency slot: Kids Central, Vasantham Central and Arts Central. Previously, Indian-related programming was broadcast along with Malay-language programmes on Prime 12, while Premiere 12's schedule consisted of arts, documentaries and kids shows. MediaCorp Central was closed down on 19 October 2008 when Vasantham Central relaunched as the standalone channel Vasantham. ''The Arena'' is a debate-style television show produced by Mediacorp Channel 5 in Singapore. Season 1 of the show was broadcast from January–March 2007. A second season, known as ''The Arena II'', was aired from March–May 2008. The show involves teams of students from secondary schools in Singapore debating against each other on issues of topical interest. Season 1 of the show was won by the team from the United World College of South East Asia, who defeated Hwa Chong Institution in the final. The Singapore Writers Festival is a literary event organised by the National Arts Council. Inaugurated in 1986, the festival serves a dual function of promoting new and emerging Singaporean and Asian writing to an international audience, as well as presenting foreign writers to Singaporeans.
