Jānis Cakuls
Jānis Cakuls (4 July 1926 – 26 February 2022) was a Latvian Roman Catholic prelate. Cakuls was ordained to the priesthood in 1949. He served as titular bishop of ''Tinista'' and as auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Riga, Latvia, until 1993 when he resigned. Titular Bishop
A titular bishop in various churches is a bishop who is not in charge of a diocese. By definition, a bishop is an "overseer" of a community of the faithful, so when a priest is ordained a bishop, the tradition of the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches is that he be ordained for a specific place. There are more bishops than there are functioning dioceses.
