Jürgen Arndt
Jürgen Arndt is a German rower who competed for the SG Dynamo Potsdam / SV Dynamo, Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo. In 1974, he came third at the East German National Championships with his coxed four team. He also started with the men's eight that year and also came third at the nationals. In 1975, he became East German National Champion with the eight, and the team was nominated for the world championships. At the 1975 World Rowing Championships in Nottingham, the team won the gold medal. At the 1976 national championships, Arndt came second with the coxed four and third with the eight. SV Dynamo
The Sportvereinigung Dynamo () (''Dynamo Sports Association'') was the sport association of the security agencies (Volkspolizei, Ministry for State Security, fire department and customs) of former East Germany. The association was founded on 27 March 1953 and was headquartered in Hohenschönhausen in East Berlin. From the date of its inception, the permanent president of SV Dynamo was the Minister of State Security Erich Mielke. The Minister of State Security served as First chairman of the association, while the Minister of the Interior served as the Second chairman of the association. The financial and material resources of the SV Dynamo were almost exclusively provided by the Ministry of State Security. Erich Mielke was dismissed as First chairman in December 1989. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. The World Rowing Championships is an international rowing regatta organized by FISA (the International Rowing Federation). It is a week-long event held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer and in non-Olympic years is the highlight of the international rowing calendar. History The first event was held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1962. The event then was held every four years until 1974, when it became an annual competition. Also in 1974, Men's lightweight and Women's open weight events were added to the championships. Initially, Men's events were 2000 metres long and Women's events 1000 metres. The Rüsselsheimer Ruder-Klub 08 (Rüsselsheim rowing club 08), also known by its abbreviation RRK 08, is a sports club based in the German city of Rüsselsheim am Main. Originally a rowing club, the main sport has been hockey since the late 1960s. The other sport offered is tennis. History The rowing club was founded in 1908. The first boat was a gig four, a German row boat type mostly used for training purposes. By 1919, i.e. just after World War I, the club had 182 members.
