Jørgen Carling
Jørgen Carling (born 11 November 1974, in Oslo) is a Norwegian researcher specializing on international migration. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Oslo and is Research Professor of Migration and Transnationalism Studies. Carling has worked at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) since 2002, where he has been Research Director since 2012. Biography Jørgen Carling grew up in Oslo where he attended Oslo Waldorf School (1981–1990) and Oslo Cathedral School (1990–1991). He obtained the International Baccalaureate from the United World College of the Atlantic (1991–1993) and pursued undergraduate studies in Japanese, Human Geography, Demography and Economics at the University of Oslo (1994–1999) before obtaining a master's degree (2001) and PhD (2007) in Human Geography at the same university. Jørgen Ingmann (born Jørgen Ingmann Pedersen; 26 April 1925 – 21 March 2015) was a Danish jazz and pop guitarist from Copenhagen. He was popular in Europe and had a wider international hit in 1961 with his version of "Apache". He and his wife Grethe Ingmann won the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Dansevise". Jørgen Brønlund
Jørgen Brønlund (14 December 1877 – November 1907), was a Greenlandic polar explorer, educator, and catechist. He participated in two Danish expeditions to Greenland in the early 20th century. Early years Brønlund, an Greenlandic Inuk and the son of a hunter, was born in Ilulissat, Greenland, Kingdom of Denmark, then known as Jakobshavn, on 14 December 1877. He was a childhood friend of Knud Rasmussen whose father was a priest in Jakobshavn. Trained as a teacher, Brønlund graduated in 1901 from Nuuk College and was employed as a catechist at a trading post near the Nuup Kangerlua estuary. Career Along with Rasmussen, Harald Moltke, and Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen, Brønlund was a member of the 1902-1903 Danish Literary Greenland Expedition. At its conclusion, Brønlund went to Denmark. Jørgen Von Cappelen Knudtzon
Jørgen von Cappelen Knudtzon (28 April 178429 July 1854) was a Norwegian businessman and patron of the arts. Born in Trondheim to a prosperous mercantile family of German extraction, he travelled to Hamburg, Germany to study commerce. Upon his father's death, he inherited the family business, though his brother-in-law Lorentz Johannsen became its director. With the family firm's trade ships Knudtzon often travelled to foreign destinations in Southeast Asia. At one occasion the ship wrecked; in the subsequent tumult he made friends with the Scot Alexander Baillie, with whom he would later travel around Europe. His profound interest in art was expressed in his numerous donations to artists and his own art collection, which included both antiquities and contemporary artworks. The Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen made sculptures of Knudtzon and Baillie; as an expression of gratitude, Knudtzon advocated the creation of a museum dedicated to Thorvaldsen in Copenhagen. Jørgen Gammelgaard (1938–1991) was a Danish furniture designer who also designed lamps and silverware. Jørgen Brunchorst
Jørgen Brunchorst (10 August 1862 – 19 May 1917) was a Norwegian natural scientist, politician and diplomat. Biography Brunchorst was born in Bergen, the son of ship builder and – captain Christian Ege Brunchorst (1835–64) and his wife Emma Wesenberg (1837–1919). His nephew Knut Fægri was one of the most outstanding botanists of the 19th century. Brunchorst specialised in botany at university, and after finishing his Ph.D. in Germany, he became director of Bergen Museum. In this position, he worked towards popularising the natural sciences, and was also a pioneer in the field of plant pathology in Norway. Brunchorst was also a politician, representing the Liberal Party and later the Coalition Party. He sat in the Norwegian parliament in the periods 1895–97 and 1903–06. Jørgen Bjelke (2 June 1621 – 17 June 1696) was a Norwegian officer and nobleman. He was born at Elingaard Manor on Onsøy near Fredrikstad, in Østfold County, Norway and died in Kalundborg, Denmark. Early and personal life He was the son of Norway’s Reich Chancellor Jens Ågessøn Bjelke and Sophie Brockenhuus. His brothers were Ove and Henrik Bjelke. He matriculated at the University of Leyden and later at the University of Orléans. Military career He served as a captain in the Hannibal Feud 1644-45.
