Jurong Point Shopping Mall
Jurong Point (Chinese:裕廊坊) is a large regional shopping mall in the precinct of Jurong West Central in Jurong West, Singapore. It is next to Boon Lay MRT station and Boon Lay Bus Interchange. It is currently the largest shopping mall in Singapore in terms of number of tenants and the largest in western Singapore. History Jurong Point first opened its doors in December 1995 with 95 retailers including Courts, Golden Village, NTUC FairPrice, Kopitiam, Old Chang Kee, Harvey Norman and Soo Kee Jewellery. Majority of these retailers were setting up shop in a mall environment for the first time and have not moved out since then. The mall once housed the Jurong West Public Library, which was then the first public library in Singapore to be located in a shopping mall. Since its opening, the mall has undergone two expansions. Jurong West Central is a subzone of Jurong West, located in the West Region of Singapore. This is the town centre of Jurong West. Transport Roads There are 4 main roads in this subzone – Boon Lay Way, Jalan Boon Lay, Jurong West Avenue 4/2 and Pioneer Road North. Public transport Rail Mass Rapid Transit The East West Line threads through the subzone along Street 63, with 2 stations ( Boon Lay and Pioneer), situated at the Eastern and Western ends of the subzone. By 2025, there will be the Jurong Region Line, which would ply through the Eastern end of the subzone. Bus The Boon Lay Bus Interchange is situated here, along Central 3, within Jurong Point Shopping Centre and next to Boon Lay MRT Station. Jurong West
Jurong West is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. Jurong West shares boundaries with Tengah in the north, Jurong East in the east, Boon Lay and Pioneer in the south, and Western Water Catchment in the west. Originally a forested area, Jurong West is undergoing rapid development under the ambition of the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to transform it into a fully mature housing estate. History Jurong West originated from the area once called Peng Kang, named after the gambier plantations along Sungei Jurong. By the mid-20th century, the area was home to several brickworks, palm oil plantations and nurseries. At that time, the only public housing estates in Jurong West were Boon Lay and Taman Jurong.
