Jurong Point
Jurong Point (Chinese:裕廊坊) is a large regional shopping mall in the precinct of Jurong West Central in Jurong West, Singapore. It is next to Boon Lay MRT station and Boon Lay Bus Interchange. It is currently the largest shopping mall in Singapore in terms of number of tenants and the largest in western Singapore. History Jurong Point first opened its doors in December 1995 with 95 retailers including Courts, Golden Village, NTUC FairPrice, Kopitiam, Old Chang Kee, Harvey Norman and Soo Kee Jewellery. Majority of these retailers were setting up shop in a mall environment for the first time and have not moved out since then. Jurong West Central is a subzone of Jurong West, located in the West Region of Singapore. This is the town centre of Jurong West. Transport Roads There are 4 main roads in this subzone – Boon Lay Way, Jalan Boon Lay, Jurong West Avenue 4/2 and Pioneer Road North. Public transport Rail Mass Rapid Transit The East West Line threads through the subzone along Street 63, with 2 stations ( Boon Lay and Pioneer), situated at the Eastern and Western ends of the subzone. Jurong West is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. Jurong West shares boundaries with Tengah in the north, Jurong East in the east, Boon Lay and Pioneer in the south, and Western Water Catchment in the west. Originally a forested area, Jurong West is undergoing rapid development under the ambition of the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to transform it into a fully mature housing estate. Boon Lay MRT Station
Boon Lay MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West line in Jurong West, Singapore. Located in Jurong West Central, Boon Lay station is one of the three stations that serve Jurong West New Town; the other two are Lakeside MRT station and Pioneer MRT station. Together with Boon Lay Bus Interchange and Jurong Point Shopping Mall, they form the Boon Lay Integrated Public Transport Hub. The station was the western terminus of the East West line prior to the opening of Joo Koon MRT station in 2009. Boon Lay station is proposed to become an interchange with the Jurong Region line, which is slated for completion in 2027. Boon Lay Bus Interchange is an air-conditioned bus interchange located in Jurong West Central, in the western part of Singapore. It is situated within Jurong Point and integrated with the nearby Boon Lay MRT station. This interchange serves a variety of passengers, including those from Nanyang Technological University, Jurong Industrial Estate and Tuas Industrial Estate. The interchange has been among the largest and busiest bus interchanges in Singapore, handling 31 services in the past until a few services were amended to the newer Joo Koon Bus Interchange in 2015. Golden Village is a cinema operator based in Singapore, fully owned by Orange Sky Golden Harvest of Hong Kong. NTUC FairPrice is the largest supermarket chain in Singapore. The company is a co-operative of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). John Little was a former chain of department stores in Singapore. Established in 1845, John Little was the oldest department store in Singapore. The John Little chain was acquired and owned by Robinson & Co. Limited in 1955. History In 1842, John Martin Little worked for his uncle Francis S. Martin who started a retail business at Commercial Square (now Raffles Place). In 1845, Francis S. Martin sold his business to Little and Cursetjee Frommurze to form Little, Cursetjee & Co..
