Juozas Domarkas
Juozas Domarkas (born 28 July 1936) is a Lithuanian musician, music teacher and conductor, and a professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA). Life Domarkas was born in Varkaliai, Nausodis eldership, Plungė District Municipality. From 1955 to 1960 he studied the clarinet at the Lithuanian Conservatory (forerunner of the present LMTA) and in 1965 he studied conducting at the Leningrad Conservatory with Ilya Musin. In 1963 he trained in Moscow with Igor Markevitch. From 1964 Domarkas was artistic director and principal conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra in Vilnius. From 1968 he has taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre where since 1995 he has also held the professorship of conducting in the music faculty. From 1972 to 1991 he also directed the student symphony orchestra of the music high school. Lithuanian People
Lithuanians ( lt, lietuviai) are a Baltic ethnic group. They are native to Lithuania, where they number around 2,378,118 people. Another million or two make up the Lithuanian diaspora, largely found in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Russia, and Canada. Their native language is Lithuanian, one of only two surviving members of the Baltic language family along with Latvian. Lithuanian National Prize For Culture And Arts
The Lithuanian National Prize ( lt, Nacionalinė kultūros ir meno premija), established in 1989, is an award granted for achievements in culture and the arts. It has been awarded annually in six categories since 2006 (between 1989 and 2006 there were nine categories). The prize is formally bestowed on February 16, when the decorations and diplomas are presented to the laureates at Presidential Palace, commemorating the anniversary of the 1918 Act of Independence of Lithuania. The award honors significant recent achievements in cultural fields and works by artists or art collectives. The honorees may be citizens of Lithuania or members of the Lithuanian World Community. When the award was first established, works accomplished during the previous five years were considered; this period was extended to seven years in 2008. The ''Visuotinė lietuvių enciklopedija'' or VLE (translation ''Universal Lithuanian Encyclopedia'') is a 25-volume universal Lithuanian-language encyclopedia published by the Science and Encyclopaedia Publishing Institute from 2001 to 2014. VLE is the first published universal encyclopedia in independent Lithuania (it replaces the former ''Lietuviškoji Tarybinė Enciklopedija'' which was published in thirteen volumes from 1976 to 1985). The last volume, XXV, was published in July 2014. An additional volume of updates, error corrections, and indexes was published in 2015. The Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland ( pl, Order Zasługi Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej) is a Polish order of merit created in 1974, awarded to persons who have rendered great service to Poland. It is granted to foreigners or Poles resident abroad. As such it is sometimes referred to as a traditional "diplomatic order". The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, Lithuania, is a state-supported conservatory that trains students in music, theatre, and multimedia arts. History Composer Juozas Naujalis founded a music school in 1919 in Kaunas. This school was reorganised into the Kaunas Conservatory in 1933. In 1949 the ''Kaunas Conservatory'' and the ''Vilnius Conservatory'', founded in 1945, were merged into the ''Lithuanian State Conservatory''.
