Julie Umerle
Julie Umerle is an American-born abstract painter who lives and works in London. __TOC__ Biography Umerle was born in Connecticut USA and relocated to London with her family as a young child. She studied French Literature at the University of Sussex and fine art at Falmouth University where she was awarded a First class Hons degree. From 1991 - 1996, Umerle worked as an artist educator at a number of London galleries including The Whitechapel Gallery, The Hayward Gallery and The Royal Academy. She graduated from Parsons School of Design with a MFA in 1998, having worked as a teaching assistant there in her final year. She lived and worked between London and New York for a further five years after completing her studies, before returning to the UK and settling again in London in 2003. Connecticut
Connecticut () is the southernmost state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. The Barbican Centre is a performing arts centre in the Barbican Estate of the City of London and the largest of its kind in Europe. Artists Space is a non-profit art gallery and arts organization first established at 155 Wooster Street in Soho, New York City. Metro Pictures Gallery
Metro Pictures was a New York City art gallery founded in 1980 by Janelle Reiring (previously of Leo Castelli Gallery), and Helene Winer (previously of Artists Space). It was located in SoHo until 1995 when it moved to Chelsea. The gallery closed in December of 2021. Artists Metro's opening group exhibition in 1980 included Cindy Sherman, Robert Longo, Troy Brauntuch, Jack Goldstein, Sherrie Levine, James Welling, and Richard Prince.
