Julie Parsons
Julie Parsons (born in 1951 near Auckland in New Zealand) was a radio and television producer before becoming an author of detective novels. Early life Parsons was born to Andy, an ex-Army doctor who had been awarded the Military Cross for bravery, and Elizabeth Parsons, who had served in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the Second World War. Her parents had left Ireland in 1947 after returning from the war. In 1955 her father was lost at sea in the South Pacific and never found. He was on a boat for a mission to the remote Tokelau Islands. The boat was later found but not the people on board. In 1963, after her father was legally declared dead, she returned to Ireland with her mother and three siblings. She studied social sciences and sociology of music at University College Dublin. Francis MacManus (8 March 1909 – 27 November 1965) was an Irish novelist and broadcaster. Life and writings Born in Kilkenny, MacManus was educated in the local Christian Brothers school and later at St. Patrick's College, Dublin and University College Dublin. After teaching for eighteen years at the Synge Street CBS in Dublin, MacManus joined the staff of Radio Éireann (precursor to RTÉ, the Irish national broadcasting entity) in 1948 as Director of Features. Dún Laoghaire
Dún Laoghaire ( , ) is a suburban coastal town in Dublin in Ireland. It is the administrative centre of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. The town was built following the 1816 legislation that allowed the building of a major port to serve Dublin. It was known as Dunleary until it was renamed Kingstown in honour of King George IV's 1821 visit, and in 1920 was given its present name, the original Irish form of Dunleary. Over time, the town became a residential location, a seaside resort and the terminus of Ireland's first railway. Toponymy The town's name means "fort of Laoghaire". ''The Gay Byrne Show'' (previously ''The Gay Byrne Hour'' and also known as ''The GB Show'') was an Irish radio programme, which ran from 1973 until 1998. The programme was presented by Gay Byrne, and aired Monday to Friday for two hours each day. It was a favourite of Irish housewives.
