Julian Arts Guild
Julian Arts Guild is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 to promote the arts in the former mining town of Julian, CA, in the mountains of San Diego County, California. The group's Julian Arts Guild Gallery, which opened in 2017 in the Julian Historic District, showcases members' artwork. The Guild each year holds a studio arts tour and two art exhibitions of paintings, drawings, photography, gourd and basketry art, weaving, and jewelry. Julian is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,502, down from 1,621 at the time of the 2000 census. Julian is an official California Historical Landmark (No. 412). Cuyamaca ( Kumeyaay: ''‘Ekwiiyemak'') is a region of eastern San Diego County. It lies east of the Capitan Grande Indian Reservation in the western Laguna Mountains, north of Descanso and south of Julian. James Hubbell (artist)
James "Jim" Hubbell (born 1931 in Mineola, New York) is a visual artist, architect, sculptor, stained-glass designer and founder of the Ilan-Lael Foundation living in Santa Ysabel, California. He is best known for designing and building organic-style structures that have been referred to as Hobbit houses. Early life and education While he was born in New York, his family soon moved to Connecticut and to other places, where Hubbell attended 13 schools in the first 12 years of his grade-school and junior-high education. Don Weeke (born 1947) is an American fiber and gourd artist from Addieville, Illinois best known for combining basketry with gourds using natural materials from the environment.
