Julia Richter (rower)
Julia Richter (born 29 September 1988 in Schwedt) is a German rower. She was part of the German quadruple sculls team that won a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She, Tina Manker, Stephanie Schiller and Britta Oppelt won the gold medal at the 2011 World Championship, and she, Annekatrin Thiele, Carina Bär and Britta Oppelt won the quadruple sculls at the 2013 World Championships. Her team with Oppelt, Bär and Manker won bronze in 2010. Schwedt
Schwedt (or Schwedt/Oder; ) is a town in Brandenburg, in northeastern Germany. With the official status of a '' Große kreisangehörige Stadt'' (major district town), it is the largest town of the Uckermark district, located near the river Oder, which forms the border with Poland. Overview The formerly agrarian town today has one of the largest oil refineries (''PCK Raffinerie GmbH'') in Germany, established in 1958 and connected to the Russian Druzhba pipeline network. The refinery uses 20 million cubic meters of water per year for the process. A large paper factory (''UPM'') is located near Schwedt. Most industries were located in the remote area during communist rule in the 1960s and 1970s. Large residential areas were built for the workers moving to Schwedt. Britta Oppelt (born 5 July 1978) is a German Olympic-medal winning sculler. Oppelt was born in East Berlin, and competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, in the double sculls, and took home the silver medal along with teammate Peggy Waleska. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she was on the German quadruple sculls team that won the silver medal, along with Annekatrin Thiele, Carina Bär and Julia Richter. In 2008, she was part of the German quadruple sculls team that won the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics, along with Manuela Lutze, Kathrin Boron and Stephanie Schiller. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion.
