Julia Kent
Julia Kent is a Canadian cellist and composer from Vancouver, Canada, and based in New York City, United States. She has performed as a member of Rasputina (band), Rasputina and with Antony and the Johnsons. Musical career Kent creates music using looped cello, found sounds, and electronics. In 2007, she released her first solo album, ''Delay'', on Important Records. An EP, ''Last Day in July'', was released in 2010, and a second full-length record, ''Green and Grey'', in 2011, on Tin Angel. In 2013 Kent moved to The Leaf Label, releasing her third solo album, ''Character (Julia Kent album), Character'', in March. Her album ''Asperities'' was released on Leaf on 30 October 2015. ''How We Quit the Forest'' is the second studio album by American rock band Rasputina, released in 1998 by Columbia Records. After years of being out of print, it was re-released by frontwoman Melora Creager on her own label, Filthy Bonnet Recording co., on CD and, for the first time, vinyl in 2011. Former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna produced the album and provided many of its sounds and samples. Promotion The first track from the album, "The Olde Headboard", was released in 1998 as a promotional-only single prior to the release of the album. Manufactured in both CD and 12" vinyl editions, with a slight difference in track listings between them, the single contains a number of remixes of the song. ''Thanks for the Ether'' is the debut studio album of American rock band Rasputina, released on August 6, 1996, on Columbia Records. The album was recorded at Sear Sound Recording Studio in New York City, and produced by Jimmy Boyle and Melora Creager. The cover art and packaging was designed by Creager. The album did not chart in any country and it did not sell many copies. It contains an eclectic collection of songs and spoken-word narration. It is also known for introducing the band's pioneering use of distortion effects pedals on their cellos, single-handedly launching the underground genre known as cello rock. On October 1, 1996, the band appeared as the musical guest on ''Late Night with Conan O'Brien'' to promote the album. ''The Crying Light'' is Antony and the Johnsons' third studio album and the follow-up to the band's widely acclaimed second LP, ''I Am a Bird Now''. The album was released on 19 January 2009, and preceded by lead single, " Another World", released through Secretly Canadian on 7 October 2008. ''The Crying Light'' features orchestral arrangements by Anohni and Nico Muhly. The album was released digitally in advance of the release. Some pre-orders contained an alternate version of "Another World". Pre-orders of the physical album from Antony's official website facilitated a full album download, including bonus track "My Lord My Love", a week prior to the official release. Unsound Festival, also known as Unsound, is an annual music festival that takes place in Kraków, Poland, dealing with evolving and mutating forms of music, as well as related visual arts. Hudson is a city and the county seat of Columbia County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 5,894. Located on the east side of the Hudson River and 120 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, it was named for the river and its explorer Henry Hudson. Meltdown is an annual festival held in London, featuring a mix of music, art, performance and film. Meltdown is held in June at Southbank Centre, the arts complex covering and including the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Hayward.
