Juffair
Juffair ( ar, الجفير) is a district situated in Manama, Bahrain. It was originally a separate village inhabited by Shia Muslims but it has been absorbed by the suburban expansion of Manama in the 20th century, and presently includes large parts of land reclaimed from the sea. It is home to many hotels, restaurants, flats, and villas. It is also the site of Bahrain's largest mosque, Al Fateh Grand Mosque, which houses the National Library. History In 1908, John Gordon Lorimer's ''Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf'' described Juffair as a village located on the northern tip of the cape of Juffair. It boasted 80 reed huts occupied by Baharna, cultivators and fishermen. The village was home to 15 pearling vessels at the time. A large clump of 900 date palms existed to the southwestern portion of the village alongside lucerne fields. A census of livestock showed 2 horses, 7 donkeys, and 4 cattle at the time. Juffair Mall
Juffair Mall is a shopping mall in the Juffair neighbourhood of Manama, the capital city of Bahrain. The mall opened on 15 December 2015. A Lulu Hypermarket opened there on 6 January 2016, the 120th Lulu store in the world. The opening ceremony was patronised by Bahrain's Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. Naval Support Activity Bahrain (or NSA Bahrain) is a United States Navy base, situated in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is home to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and United States Fifth Fleet. Occupying the original territory of the British Royal Navy base known as HMS Jufair, USN presence was established on-site during World War II. Transferred to the U.S. government in 1971, NSA Bahrain today provides support through logistical, supply, and protection as well as a Navy Exchange facility and Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs to both United States Armed Forces and coalition assets. HMS Jufair
The United Kingdom Naval Support Facility is a Royal Navy base established in Bahrain on 13 April 1935, as part of the port at Mina Salman. In 1950, the United States Navy leased space in HMS ''Jufair'' and following Bahraini independence in 1971, took over the base. On 6 December 2014, it was announced that HMS ''Jufair'' would be reestablished as a permanent Royal Navy base. Bahrain School is a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) school located in Juffair, Manama, Bahrain. Overview The school is operated by the Bahrain International School Association (BISA) with the United States Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) and takes students from Kindergarten to Twelfth grade. Graduating seniors can earn an American diploma or an International Baccalaureate diploma. Bahrain School is the only DoDEA school in the Persian Gulf area. The closest DoDEA school to Bahrain School is George C. Marshall School in Ankara, Turkey. Al Fateh Grand Mosque
The Al-Fateh Mosque (also known as Al-Fateh Islamic Center & Al Fateh Grand Mosque) (; transliterated: ''Masjid al-Fatih'') was one of the largest mosques in the world, encompassing 6,500 square meters and having the capacity to accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time. The mosque was built by the late Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa in 1987 and was named after Ahmed Al Fateh. In 2006, Al-Fateh became the site of the National Library of Bahrain. About The mosque was the largest place of worship in Bahrain. It is located next to the Al Fateh Highway in Juffair, which is a suburban neighborhood of Manama. The huge dome built on top of the Al-Fateh Mosque was constructed entirely of fibreglass. Weighing over 60 Tons, the dome was the world's largest fiberglass dome.
