Juanita Wilson
Juanita Wilson is an Irish director and writer from Dublin. Her short film ''The Door'' received an Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA) in 2009 and an Academy Award nomination in 2010. Her debut feature film ''As If I Am Not There'' received the 2011 Irish Film and Television Award for best film, best script, and best director. Early life Wilson attended the National College of Art and Design where she studied fine art as well as Dublin Institute of Technology where she studied design and journalism. She began directing after this. She produced ''Inside I'm Dancing'' and '' H3''. Career ''The Door'' ''The Door'' was Wilson's first short film. It is based on the " Monologue About a Whole Life Written Down on Doors, the testimony of Nikolai Fomich Kalugin" by Svetlana Alexievich (from her book ''Voices from Chernobyl''). Slavenka Drakulić (born July 4, 1949) is a Croatian journalist, novelist, and essayist whose works on feminism, communism, and post-communism have been translated into many languages. Biography Drakulić was born in Rijeka, Croatia (at that time, part of socialist Yugoslavia), on July 4, 1949. She graduated in comparative literature and sociology from the University in Zagreb in 1976. From 1982 to 1992, she was a staff writer for the ''Start'' bi-weekly newspaper and news weekly ''Danas'' (both in Zagreb), writing mainly on feminist issues. ''As If I Am Not There'' (Serbian: Као да ме нема, ''Kao da me nema'') is a 2010 drama film made by Irish director Juanita Wilson. The film is set in the Balkans and is shot in the Serbo-Croatian language. It was selected as the Irish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, but did not make the final shortlist. The film follows a young teacher who travels to a remote village. After the village is attacked, she is imprisoned and raped, together with the women of village. It is based on Slavenka Drakulić's 1999 novel of the same name that deals with war rape in the Bosnian War. Plot Set during the Bosnian War, the movie follows the experiences of a young female teacher from Sarajevo who travels to a remote village to teach.
