Juan Pablo Cantero
Juan Pablo Cantero (born September 19, 1982) is an Argentine professional basketball player for Unión de Santa Fe of the Liga Nacional de Básquet (LNB). Professional career In 2007–08, Cantero averaged 11.2 points and 3.2 assists per game with Juventud Sionista of the Argentine League. In 2008–09, he averaged 13.2 points and 4.1 assists per game with the same club. National team career On the heels of his successful 2008–09 season, Cantero was called up to the Argentine national basketball team for the first time at the 2009 Marchand Cup. He also competed with the team at the FIBA Americas Championship 2009, providing depth off the bench in helping the team qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Above all, the point guard must understand and accept their coach's game plan; in this way, the position can be compared to a quarterback in American football. South American Basketball Championship 2010
The 2010 South American Basketball Championship was the 44th edition of the South American Basketball Championship. Eight teams featured the competition, held in Neiva, Colombia from 26 to July 31 in the Coliseo Álvaro Sánchez Silva. Argentina was the defending champion, but lost in the final to Brazil. The first three places qualified for the basketball tournament at the 2011 Pan American Games and to the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship, the latter of which doubled as the FIBA Americas qualifier for the 2012 Olympics. Because Argentina, which automatically qualified for the FIBA Americas Championship as host, finished in an automatic qualifying spot, the fourth-place team was also invited to that competition. The fifth-place team did not initially qualify for that competition, but was later invited once the United States withdrew from that event because it had qualified for the Olympics by winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship. 2010 FIBA World Championship
The 2010 FIBA World Championship was the 16th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship contested by the men's national teams. The tournament ran from 28 August to 12 September 2010. It was co-organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Turkish Basketball Federation and the 2010 Organising Committee. It was considered as prestigious a competition as the Olympic Basketball Tournament. The tournament was hosted by Turkey. For the third time (after the 1986 and 2006 tournaments), the World Championship had 24 competing nations. As a result, the group stage games were played in four cities, and the knockout round was hosted by Istanbul. The Jenaro "Tuto" Marchand Continental Championship Cup, or simply the Marchand Continental Cup, or Tuto Marchand Cup, is a warm-up friendly tournament for the FIBA Americas regional zone senior men's basketball championship, the FIBA Americas Championship.
