Juan March Institute
The Instituto Carlos III-Juan March (IC3JM), formerly the Advanced Center for Social Science Studies (CEACS), is a research and postgraduate institute for the social sciences. It is based at the Getafe campus of Carlos III University in the south of the Madrid metropolitan area. It receives funding from both the university and the Fundación Juan March. History The predecessor organization of IC3JM, the Advanced Center for Social Science Studies (CEACS), opened in 1987 as part of the Fundación Juan March, which supports social science research along with other cultural objectives. The Foundation is based in the Salamanca district of central Madrid. CEACS offered master's degrees in social science for Spanish students as well as a programme of four-year grants for students to undertake a master's and write a doctoral thesis. Juan March Ordinas
Juan Alberto March Ordinas (4 October 1880 – 10 March 1962) was a Spanish business magnate, arms and tobacco smuggler, banker and philanthropist. Closely associated with the Nationalist faction (Spanish Civil War), Nationalist side during and after the Spanish Civil War, March was the wealthiest man in Spain and the sixth richest in the world. Throughout his life, he accumulated labels such as "the Rockefeller of Spain" or "the last pirate of the Mediterranean". At his death in 1961, ''Time (magazine), Time'' called him "the Iberian Croesus". Born into a humble family of peasants in Mallorca, he was expelled from school at an early age, and began helping his father with his pig farming business while smuggling tobacco from Spanish Morocco. Adam Przeworski (; born May 5, 1940) is a Polish-American professor of political science specializing in comparative politics. He is Carroll and Milton Professor Emeritus in the Department of Politics of New York University. He is a scholar of democratic societies, theory of democracy, social democracy and political economy, as well as an early proponent of rational choice theory in political science.
