Juan Manuel López (politician)
Juan Manuel López (born 16 September 1983) is an Argentine politician, currently serving as National Deputy since 2017. A member of the Civic Coalition ARI, López was first elected in 2017 in the Federal Capital, and re-elected in 2021 in Buenos Aires Province. He presides the Civic Coalition ARI parliamentary bloc within the Juntos por el Cambio group in the Chamber of Deputies. Early life and career López was born on 16 September 1983 in Saladillo, a small town in central Buenos Aires Province. He finished high school at the Escuela Agrotécnica Selesiana Carlos M. Cásares in 2001, and then studied law at the University of Buenos Aires, graduating in 2008. He served as a congressional advisor to Elisa Carrió, the founder and leader of the Civic Coalition ARI. The Chamber of Deputies ( es, Cámara de Diputados de la Nación), officially the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation, is the lower house of the Argentine National Congress ( es, Congreso de la Nación). It is made up of 257 national deputies who are elected in multi-member constituencies corresponding with the territories of the 23 provinces of Argentina (plus the Federal Capital) by party list proportional representation. Elections to the Chamber are held every two years, so that half of its members are up in each election, making it a rare example of staggered elections used in a lower house. Elective Abortion in Argentina is legal in the first 14 weeks of gestation. The abortion law was liberalized after the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Bill (Argentina) was passed by the National Congress in December 2020.
