João Do Amaral Gurgel
João Augusto Conrado do Amaral Gurgel was a Brazilian businessman. In 1969, he decided to start a small factory, producing small cars. Early models were fiberglass bodies installed on Volkswagen Beetle (fusca) chassis and machinery. Gurgel introduced Brazil's first domestically designed car, the BR-800, but went out of business in the 1990s. João do Amaral Gurgel was known as João Gurgel. He was the founder of Gurgel. Bankruptcy The real cause of João Gurgel's bankruptcy was very bad commercial decisions, with new policies by the Brazilian government from March 1990. While under total protectionism (1969-1989), Gurgel had prosperity, having as much an important part of Brazilian Jeep's market. In the late 1980s, then Brazilian president José Sarney granted a large loan (without any collateral) to Gurgel, from a Brazilian state bank. Franca is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Gurgel Delta
The Gurgel Delta was a Brazilian car designed by Gurgel, never sold in commercial market. The project was described by Gurgel himself as the true popular car, citing Gurgel Supermini, Supermini as "a small car, economic and easy to park, for who do not set comfort aside". Compared to Supermini, Delta had new gearboxes (made by machinery acquired by Gurgel from Citroën), front wheel drive (no drive shaft), weighing 550 kg. Fernando Collor
Fernando Affonso Collor de Mello (; born 12 August 1949) is a Brazilian politician who served as the 32nd president of Brazil from 1990 to 1992, when he resigned in a failed attempt to stop his impeachment trial by the Brazilian Senate. Collor was the first President democratically elected after the end of the Brazilian military government. He became the youngest president in Brazilian history, taking office at the age of 40. After he resigned from the presidency, the impeachment trial on charges of corruption continued. Collor was found guilty by the Senate and disqualified from holding elected office for eight years (1992–2000). Gurgel Carajás
Gurgel Carajás was a Brazilian car, a SUV, produced by Gurgel between late 1984 and January, 1991. All Carajás were 4 x 2 drive, but they were produced with three engine options: gasoline and ethanol with 1800cc, and diesel with 1600cc. It had a front engine and a rear transmission, connecting both by the use of a system called Tork Tube System, or TTS for short. The late Carajás VIP has four doors on a slightly longer wheelbase, this version uses the same front doors as the ones fitted to the two-door models. Between 1985 and 1990, it was the number one selling vehicle in its class in Brazil. In 1989, Gurgel Carajás had 75% of market share, against just 25% of its only option in Brazil: the very expensive Toyota Bandeirante. Between 1976 and 1990, importing vehicles was illegal.
