João Moreira (footballer, Born 1970)
João Manuel da Silva Moreira (; born 30 June 1970) is a Portuguese former professional footballer, who played as a defender for Swansea City in the Football League. Club career In summer 1996 Swansea City manager Jan Mølby spent £50,000 to bring Moreira to the Welsh club, then languishing in the Third Division. It was reported that Moreira was a former Benfica player who had recently had a trial with Birmingham City. At Swansea Moreira lived with teammate Jason Price, near a group of students who had a Jacuzzi. The duo's off-field antics and excessive partying resulted in a rebuke from coach Alan Curtis. Quickly nicknamed "Joe" Moreira, a knee injury sustained in pre-season kept him out of the Swansea team until November 1996, when he played in a 1–0 win over Brighton. Alan Curtis (footballer)
Alan Thomas Curtis (born 16 April 1954) is a former Wales international footballer, who played as a forward; he is currently the honorary club president of Swansea City. He began his career with Swansea City in 1972, and spent the next seven years with the "Swans", winning promotion out of the Fourth Division in 1977–78 and out of the Third Division in 1978–79. He was then sold on to Leeds United, but struggled in the First Division and was sold back to Swansea in 1980. He helped Swansea to win promotion out of the Second Division in 1980–81, but a period of decline for the club followed and he moved on to Southampton in November 1983. He played on loan at Stoke City towards the end of the 1985–86 season, before he joined Cardiff City in the summer. He helped the "Bluebirds" to win promotion out of the Fourth Division in 1987–88 and to also win the Welsh Cup in 1988. Daniel Moreira (born 8 August 1977) is a French former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career Born in Maubeuge, Moreira started his career with Valenciennes FC before moving to Guingamp. He finished as the runners-up of the 1997 Coupe de France playing for them. In 1998, he transferred to RC Lens. He won the Coupe de la Ligue with the ''Les Sang et Or'' in 1999, scoring the winning goal in the final against Metz, and got very close from winning the national championship in 2002. John Frain
John William Frain (born 8 October 1968) is an English former professional footballer who played for Birmingham City and Northampton Town. He played in all four divisions of the Football League, making nearly 500 league appearances for his two clubs. Life and career Frain was born in Yardley, Birmingham. He joined Birmingham City from school, made his debut in the First Division in April 1986 aged 17, and signed full professional forms in October of that year. He was originally a left back, but good passing ability and a lack of pace saw him moved into midfield, towards the end of his Birmingham career returning to left-back. The 1997 Football League Third Division play-off Final was an association football match which was played on 24 May 1997 at Wembley Stadium, London, between Northampton Town and Swansea City to determine the fourth and final team to gain promotion from the Football League Third Division to the Second Division. The top three teams of the 1996–97 Football League Third Division, Carlisle United, Fulham and league winners Wigan Athletic, gained automatic promotion to the Second Division, while the teams placed from fourth to seventh in the table took part in play-offs. The winners of the play-off semi-finals competed for the final place for the 1997–98 season in the Second Division. The losing semi-finalists were Chester City and Cardiff City. Vetch Field
The Vetch Field was a football stadium in Swansea, Wales. It was used for football matches and was the home ground of Swansea City until the club moved to the newly built Liberty Stadium in 2005. Opened in 1912, the ground held around 12,000 at the time of its closure, but upwards of 30,000 at its peak. As well as being home to the Swans, the Vetch also hosted games for the Wales national football team, with 18 internationals played at the Vetch between 1921 and 1988. Other sports also found a home at the Vetch, with 8 rugby league matches played there between 1990 and 1999. In 1960, local boy Brian Curvis beat the Australian boxer George Barnes at the Vetch to win the Commonwealth (British Empire) Welterweight title.
