Joyce Yakubowich (née Sadowick; 29 May 1953 – 24 March 2024) was a Canadian track and field sprinter who competed mainly in the 200 metres and 400 metres. She was the 400 m gold medallist at the 1975 Pan American Games, where she also won relay medals. Stephanie Berto (born March 13, 1953 in Vancouver) is a retired female track and field athlete, who represented Canada at the 1968 Summer Olympics in the women's 100 metres and 4 × 100 m relay, while becoming the youngest member of the Olympic team at age 15. Berto won a 100/200 metres sprint double at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in 1971. She also won both those events at the WAAA Championships that same year. At 16, she captured a bronze medal in 100 meters and a silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the 1969 Pacific Conference Games in Tokyo, Japan. Marjorie Bailey (née Turner; born 21 November 1947) is a Canadian sprinter. At the 1976 Summer Olympics she competed in the women's 100 metres and 200 metres. She made the semi-final round in both events. She ran the anchor leg of the 4 x 100 metre relay, which placed fourth and set a Canadian and Commonwealth record of 43.17. At the 1978 Commonwealth Games she won a silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay. 4 × 100 Metres Relay
The 4 × 100 metres relay or sprint relay is an athletics track event run in lanes over one lap of the track with four runners completing 100 metres each. The first runners must begin in the same stagger as for the individual 400 m race. Each runner carries a relay baton. Before 2018, the baton had to be passed within a 20 m changeover box, preceded by a 10-metre acceleration zone. With a rule change effective November 1, 2017, that zone was modified to include the acceleration zone as part of the passing zone, making the entire zone 30 metres in length. The outgoing runner cannot touch the baton until it has entered the zone, and the incoming runner cannot touch it after it has left the zone. Margaret Stride (née MacGowan; born 21 December 1954) is a Canadian sprinter. She competed in the women's 400 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics. The Pan American Games is a quadrennial event which began in 1951. The Pan American Sports Organization accepts only athletes who are representing one of the organisation's member states (most of which are within the Americas) and recognises records set at editions of the Pan American Games. The Games records in athletics are the best marks set in competitions at the Games. In 1975 she was rated as the number one 400 meter women's sprinter in the United States.
