The 1973 Pacific Conference Games was the second edition of the international athletics competition between five Pacific coast nations: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. Mark Edward Lutz (born December 23, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American former sprinter. He ran for his home country in the 200 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics, finishing 5th in his qualifying heat. Biography Lutz studied at the University of Kansas where he was a key member of the Kansas Jayhawks track team between 1971 and 1974. Dick Buerkle
Richard Thomas Buerkle ( ; September 3, 1947 – June 22, 2020) was an American Olympic athlete and a world record holder for the men's indoor mile. He is known as one of the most successful walk-ons in the history of American collegiate running, due to his athletic successes while at Villanova. Running career High school Buerkle graduated from Aquinas Institute high school in 1965 with personal best times of 4:28 for the mile and 10:01 for two miles. He began running competitively only in his senior year of high school. Collegiate With no stand-out track credentials from high school, Buerkle enrolled at Villanova initially with no sports scholarship. Dick Quax
Theodorus Jacobus Leonardus "Dick" Quax (1 January 1948 – 28 May 2018) was a Dutch-born New Zealand runner, one-time world record holder in the 5000 metres, and local-body politician. Quax stood for Parliament for the ACT Party in 1999 and 2002. He was a Manukau City councillor from 2001 to 2007, when he stood unsuccessfully for mayor, and was a councillor on the Auckland Council from 2011 until his death in 2018. Athletic career Quax won four New Zealand national athletics titles: the 5000 m in 1972, 1973, and 1974; and the one mile in 1969. At the 1970 British Commonwealth Games, Quax won the silver medal in the 1500 metres. In the 5000 m, at the 1972 Summer Olympics he was eliminated in the heats, but he won silver in 1976. Rodney Phillip Dixon (born 13 July 1950) is a former New Zealand middle- to long-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the New Zealand at the 1972 Summer Olympics, 1972 Olympics in Munich, and in 1983 won the New York City Marathon. John Walker (athlete)
Sir John George Walker, (born 12 January 1952) is a former middle-distance runner from New Zealand who won the gold medal in the men's 1500 m event at the 1976 Olympics. He was also the first person to run the mile in under 3:50. Rick Wohlhuter
Rick Wohlhuter (born December 23, 1948) is a retired American middle-distance runner. Wohlhuter won the national indoor championship in the 600 yards in 1970. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1971, and later qualified for the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. In 1976 he finished sixth in the 1500 meters. In the 800 metres, he was initially disqualified for bumping Seymour Newman in the semi-final, but reinstated on appeal and went on to win the bronze medal, behind Alberto Juantorena who broke the world record and Ivo Van Damme of Belgium. Wohlhuter was the U.S. national champion for the 800 meters in 1973 and 1974 and was ranked #1 in the world both years by ''Track & Field News''.
