Joy T. Nilo (born January 11, 1970) is a Filipino composer who specializes in a cappella choral music. Also an orchestrator, his works range from traditional to modern, ethnic to electronic, serious to popular. He is also a pianist, singer, music conductor and educator. Choral music His sacred composition ''Amami'', a suite of 6 anthems based on the Lord’s Prayer, is well-known among international choirs, and so are liturgical music such as ''O Magnum Mysterium'', ''Agtalnaca'', ''Denggem, Apo, Isalacannacam'', and ''Umawit Kayo Sa Panginoon''. Andrea Ofilada Veneracion (or ''Ma'am OA''; July 11, 1928 – July 9, 2013) was a Filipino choral conductor and a recipient of the 1999 National Artist for Music award. She founded the Philippine Madrigal Singers in 1963. She was also an adjudicator in numerous international choral competitions and was an active force in choral music before her massive stroke in 2005. Jonas Baes
Jonas Baes (born 1961 in Los Baños, Laguna) is a Filipino composer. He enrolled in the University of the Philippines' College of Music in 1977 as a student of Ramon P. Santos, and encountered the musical compositions of Jose Maceda, attended several seminar-workshops of visiting lecturers, and did research on the music of the Iraya-Mangyan people of Mindoro, which became the inspiration for his compositions. From 1992 to 1994, he studied with Mathias Spahlinger in Freiburg, Germany. Baes is known for writing music utilizing "unorthodox" musical instruments like bean-pod rattles, leaves, iron-nail chimes, as well as various Asian instruments such as bamboo scrapers, bamboo flutes, and vocal music using Asian vocal techniques. Martin Behrmann (16 July 1930 – 5 January 2014) was a German choirmaster and university teacher. Life Born in Dessau, Behrmann was a grammar school pupil at the Katharineum in Lübeck and passed the Abitur at the Johanneum in Hamburg. He studied church music at the Musikhochschule Freiburg and pipe organ with Walter Kraft. He passed the A-examination at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. From 1957 to 1966 he was cantor at the St. Andreas Church in Hamburg. He founded the Cappella Vocale Hamburg and was choir conducting teacher at the Hamburg University of Music until 1966. San Miguel Master Chorale
The San Miguel Master Chorale (SMMC), now non-existent, was the first professional choir in the Philippines. It was composed of an all-Filipino roster ranging from faculty members and honor graduates of music conservatories, alumni of various choirs, choral conductors, composers, arrangers, and soloists. The SMMC, together with the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra, was disbanded in January 2007 by the San Miguel Corporation. Beginnings The SMMC was established in 2001 by The San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts, an organization owned by the San Miguel Corporation and committed to the enrichment of arts and culture in the Philippines.
