Journey To The West II
''Journey to the West II'' is a Hong Kong television series adapted from the 16th-century novel ''Journey to the West''. The series was produced by TVB and was first broadcast on TVB Jade in Hong Kong from October to December 1998. It is a sequel to the 1996 television series ''Journey to the West'', also produced by TVB, which covered only the first half of the novel. Benny Chan takes over the role of the Monkey King from Dicky Cheung in ''Journey to the West II'', while the other principal cast members Kwong Wah, Wayne Lai and Evergreen Mak reprise their roles from the previous series. Sha Wujing
Sha Wujing () is one of the three disciples of the Buddhist pilgrim Tang Sanzang in the 16th century novel ''Journey to the West'' written by Wu Cheng'en in the Ming dynasty, although versions of his character predate the Ming novel. In the source novel, his background is the least developed of the pilgrims, and he contributes the least to their efforts. Names In English renditions of the story, the character is called "Friar Sand", "Sand Monk", "Sandman", "Sand Fairy", "Sand Orc", "Sand Ogre", "Sand Troll", "Sand Oni", "Sand Demon", "Sand Monster", "Sand Hulk", "Sand", or "Sandy", and is sometimes referred to as a "water buffalo" in reference to his low intelligence. Danny Lau Dan (; born 13 January 1944) is a Hong Kong actor. Works Lau is known to portray good characters, but could play cunning and sly characters with ease (includes ''The Bund'' and ''Land of Wealth''). He is most noted for being the only actor to play the role of Hong Qigong in the TV series adaptations of Louis Cha's novels ''The Legend of the Condor Heroes'' and ''The Return of the Condor Heroes'' for four times in a row. Guanyin
Guanyin () is a Bodhisattva associated with compassion. She is the East Asian representation of Avalokiteśvara ( sa, अवलोकितेश्वर) and has been adopted by other Eastern religions, including Chinese folk religion. She was first given the appellation of "Goddess of Mercy" or "Mercy Goddess" by Jesuit missionaries in China. Derek Kok Jing-hung (, born 18 November 1964) is a Hong Kong actor who had worked for TVB from 1986 to 2015. He filmed over 70 dramas. He is specialised in action and Chinese Kung Fu performance.
