José López Rubio y Herreros (13 December 1903 in Motril, Granada Province – 2 March 1996) was a Spanish playwright, screenwriter, film director, theatre historian and humorist. Rubio y Herreros worked in Hollywood as a songwriter for Paramount Pictures, and was nominated for an Oscar for ''Treasure of the Sierra Madre''. The Generation of '27 ( es, Generación del 27) was an influential group of poets that arose in Spanish literary circles between 1923 and 1927, essentially out of a shared desire to experience and work with avant-garde forms of art and poetry. Their first formal meeting took place in Seville in 1927 to mark the 300th anniversary of the death of the baroque poet Luis de Góngora. Writers and intellectuals paid homage at the '' Ateneo de Sevilla'', which retrospectively became the foundational act of the movement. Motril
Motril () is a town and municipality on the Mediterranean coast in the Granada, Spain. It is the second largest town in the province, with a population of 60,368 as of 2016. The town is located near the Guadalfeo River and is from Granada. History Although its origin still remains unclear, it was a Phoenician enclave. It already existed in Roman times. When the Christians conquered Motril, there were 2,000 inhabitants whose main activities were agriculture, fishing and the production of silk and sugar. The city center size was around . Outside the city there are two suburbs: Al-Majon suburb and al-Couruch suburb and a neighborhood called Jandara. There was a Morisco uprising in 1569 that finished in 1570 with the Christians' victory.
